Hello,

I have one of the original 818S kits and have been slowly working on it for a few years so I am not discovering all the things that weren't perfect with the early cars. I was installing the coolant lines and found that with the motor in the stock location it will be pressing the upper hose against the firewall. I am using hard pipes from replicaparts.com, which are excellent btw. To prevent a failure at some point I am likely going to move my engine back a half inch which means cutting into the chassis mounts.

Did anyone else have an issue with the motor sitting a little too far forward? It is the stock 2006 WRX engine/transmission.

Thanks

Isn't the FFR rear firewall on the front-side of the frame, and not the back (aka engine-side) of the frame? Some of us (myself included) have added an additional firewall on the back side of the frame to separate the fuel tank from the engine but even with that, my hose does clear my supplemental firewall. I did trim off as much length as required to the hose to keep it so the vertical portion of the hose that runs downward is as close to the timing belt cover as possible to give me firewall clearance.

I would caution against moving the engine back. The angle of your axles in relation to the hubs is going to change and the transmission and shift linkage is already very close to the rear bumper and for some people actually touches the bumper.

for some people actually touches the bumper.

I am the some people in that regard. I would echo Jeff's comment on cautioning against moving it back.

I'm surprised it's rubbing on the frame in the rear. Can we see a pic? Why not cut the upper coolant hard line back 1/2" or 1" and make the hard lines fit better?

You could also cut a 1/4" off the end of the rubber coupler to let it slide further onto the engine. I have the same hard pipe kit and believe I also had to do this to get more clearance.

To the first question, you are correct I should have said frame rail instead of firewall. I will play with the hose length and see if I can make it work.

My 04 FXT must have a different cross over pipe. I am not even close to the fire wall tubes.

I think that if you cut back the elbow used to connect the two you can get about 1/2 clearance, you have to really shorten that rubber elbow
