Vidal, instead of modding the aft of the panel I trimmed along the front until it cleared the condenser. I wanted to retain the bend at the rear of the panel as IMO it makes it more rigid.

Nice.

I gotta tell you that your choice of paint color and accent scheme is beautiful. I can't wait to see it with the wheels.....

Last night I finished the wiring for the headlights. The only wiring missing at the front are the ones for the fog lights. I'm waiting for Shane's fog lights mounts to finish those. You can see there is quite some extra length of wiring in there. The reason for that is that I made the harness for the stock H9 bulbs location. After I made the harness reach the bulbs I added the HID kits seen on the pictures and then looped it around as the HID kit adds some length to the harness. The reason why I didn't made the harness to reach just to the HID box and make it look cleaner is because in case one of the HID boxes or bulbs fails at night I can just go buy an H9 bulb and the stock harness will reach where the bulb is and I wont be left in the dark.

No lie there!!!! It's a Beauty!

Thanks guys. Those comments mean a lot especially after so much attention to detail. Welcome to the forum KNG SNKE.

Here is an update. I was able to test the headlights after downloading the latest ISIS mastercell config. I was also able to test the InMobile feature of the ISIS system. Here are some pictures and a video of the InMobile test. The InMobile allows to control anything in the electrical system via a secured WiFi connection. Anything from headlights, interior and engine lights, door poppers, security system, A/C etc... from the iPhone or any similar device.

The GTM is really coming together Hugo.

It's stunning.

I am a fan of the Isis system too. Everything can be changed and customized. The iPhone integration has cool gizmo factor . I'm using it also because it has great diagnostics as well as the ability to create a logical series of functions. Great for cooling fans. Also to create a glass cockpit with the street controls in sofware and the track functions in solid state.

BTW thanks for posting all the details of your build. Between you and Mike I never even look at the build manual.

I received last week the fog light mounts from Shane at Vraptor speedworks. Very nice piece as usual from Shane. This is a great solution to installing the fog lights it even comes with a template to droll the holes. I asked Wally to paint it white in the area that sits against the body and black on the sides that go against the black plastic area of the fog lights. This should make the part blend nicely with its surrounding.

Today I installed Shane's GTM Hood Latch Rub Plates. The strikers on my hood were rubbing on the paint so I decided to order a set. I had to bend them a little so that the strikers would clear the plates. Apparently I installed the strikers a bit too inward on the hood. After bending the plates and grinding the inner side of the strikers they clear the plates.

I also installed today the door strikers. The ones provided by FFR were tho short to work so I used these GM ones from Pep boys and they worked nicely when we lined up the doors and body before paint. Didn't wanted to use the FFR provided aluminum plate that goes between the striker and the body or a plain washer behind the striker. But, a washer/spacer was still needed so I had one made by a local machine shop. This is the final look on it.

Hi Hugo,
Thanks for the info on the radiator box. I immediately installed the 1/2" tubing you recommended. It turned out great and reinforces it very well.
On another note, yor car is looking very nice. I like the sharp contrast between the black and white, very nice job!

Radkat

After reading reports of the radiator aluminum under tray flexing and braking at speed of 80 MPH or more I decided to reinforce it. At first I thought about using an aluminum angle bar along the edge. The only angle that looked strong enough for the job was a 3/4in. one. I didn't like the way it would look and was worried about what that 3/4 flat edge would do in terms of deflecting part of the air going into the radiator. The best solution I could come up with was to use a 1/2 inch square steel tube. I riveted it along the edge of the tray and I think it is stronger than what the aluminum angle could have ever been. The 1/2 in. tube fits perfectly behind the edge that is already on the aluminum so it is barely visible.

This is what I almost used.

Thanks Gene. Here is an update. The last two days have seen more progress. I finished the windshield wiper rod. I had only tested it with the threaded rod and hadn't added the aluminum sleeve and jam nuts. I decided to paint the sleeve with wrinkle finish pain so that it would match the liner finish on the panels.

The upholster did some more work today and yesterday. Unfortunately he wont be able to return until Friday. After installing the insulation he made some panel covers using an upholstering "cardboard like material" to put over the insulation. This was done in order to keep a smooth look on the Alcantara. We installed the upper firewall and glass, parking brake handle and boot and part of the tunnel Alcantara.

V,

If all goes well I'm hoping for 30 more days. At this point I'm depending on the schedule of the upholster and the body man to finish. The stuff I can do is almost done. As soon as the interior is done the windows, and doors should go on and then its just a matter of a few more details and it will be ready for the DMV. Here are some more pictures of the interior progress. I'm very exited at this point.

I tried to have the least amount of bolts in plain view as I could so I found this cool fastener for the center console/waterfall area. most of the ones in the firewall will also be covered soon.

Hi Hugo,

First class all the way, very nice work. I noticed on on your pictures of the tunnel what looked like a black cardboard, did you use it as a template or a backing for the material that you used to cover the tunnel?

Thanks for the nice comments guys. Mike, the cardboard like material you see in the pictures is a cardboard that is used by upholsters to make door panels. He used it as a backing for the Alcantara in the tunnel. Otherwise it would have looked full of imperfections if applied directly to the insulating material.

Gentlemen,
The material is "panelboard". It's a waterproof pressed board type of material. IIRC it usually comes in 3'x4'x1/8" sheets. Outside of auto upholstery it's makeup allows for many uses. I've used it in quite a few car audio projects.

Using The Stig's idea of welding a nut to it I added an extension for the seat belt latch. This should make it easier for me to reach the latch when using the seat belt. At 5'7" I have to use my seat relatively closer to the steering wheel than others.

I went by a friend's shop on Wednesday. He told me about a window trim from Mitsubishi that works perfectly on the GTM. I ordered them and they arrived today. Here are some pictures of the rear quarter window with and without the trim and the part number. It covers up really good all the imperfections on the edge of the glass. The trim has its own adhesive. just peal and stick.

Guys, thanks for all the comments they are really appreciated especially coming from some very talented builders like you. This project is really coming together the way I planned it to be. I had my doubts at times but its really coming together. I was definitely lucky to have Wally for my paint and Juan for the upholstery work. Here is the instrument panel almost done. Still need to paint the column cover and a few details. I asked Juan to cover the CF of the IP in black Alcantara. IMO it really looks good against the bezels on the gauges.

I see you are using the ISIS touch screen. Have you had a chance to program the ISIS controls and user interface on the screen yet? Can you do that yourself, or do you need ISIS Tech Support to do it for you?

Kempo

Yes I have. You cant write the program configuration for the system. It has to be done by ISIS tech support but you don't have to send any of the cells to them. They will email you the new configuration and send you a loaner programmer tool or you can buy one and upload the new configuration.

The entire damn car looks awesome! And yeah, those slots on the bolts really need to be lined up - not certain I could sleep knowing they were askew!

I'm hoping to get back to my GTM in a few weeks - my visit to you last November gave me a serious case of garage envy - I've spent the last few months focusing on getting a new garage built and it's almost finished. Getting a 2-post BendPak lift installed next week, then I'll finish the floors, move my stuff in, and get back to GTMing. Still hoping to prime and paint this fall.

Hope the family's doing well.

Thanks for the compliment Michael. Good choice on the lift brand. USA made= good quality and parts availability in the future. Congrats on the new garage. That lift will pay for itself in sort time when you see how much easier the built will become using it. Try to get some sort of ramps for the GTM as most likely the lift legs wont be able to clear the underside of the car without them.

Family is doing awesome, hope yours is too.

Thanks Vidal. Yes I do plan on installing the tunnel panels. I'm just waiting to get everything done and to be sure I wont have to access any component down there before closing the tunnel. For the strakes I'm using stainless steel flat head screws and washers. I also made the strakes from a larger diameter aluminum tube as the ones from FFR seemed too thin for the wide area they are installed at. The same type hardware is used for the smaller ones on the sides.

Thanks guys. These final details of the build really eat up a lot of time. Today we finished the roof liner and QRP's roll bar cover. The cover was upholstered in leather and the roof area in Alcantara. Tomorrow the seats should go in for the last time. Progress has been slow but constant during this whole week. Hope to make it to the pediatric camcer fund raiser in time.

I'm sure that the question is somewhere in this build thread but I couldn't find it, how much did the system cost you have(ISIS I guess if I got the app name right). I looked online and it appeared to be $1700 for the screen, another $1000 for the 2-cell kit, then $400 for the mobile connection......

Only two small panels are missing under the car.

Ok I'll be the first to ask, what's the next project?

You should be very proud of your accomplishment. Truly a rolling work of art.

This is the first time I tackle a project this big. Now that it is 99% done is when i realize what many of you guys on this forum have mentioned before... "Anyone can buy a super car not everyone can build one". For me at this moment is not just having the car. Its the satisfaction of looking at it and think WOW!!! I really assembled that amazing machine. I must give credit where credit is due Wally did an amazing job on the body and Juan on the interior. Many of you guys in this forum also helped me get it done. THANKS!!!!

Jim, the next project might have something to do with one of the cars in this pictures. I might give some needed TLC to my RX7 or I might rip to pieces my STI or one like it. It all depends on what I see at SEMA in the FFR booth this year.

Here are some pictures. On the to do list I'm missing installing one of the headlights covers, door windows, adjust a bit better the rear hatch to lower the glass a bit, speakers, door panels, wiper arm and go to the DMV for an inspection to get my tag. ( the one on the pictures is an old one I used to measure where the holes for it would go)

For the upper area of the window I used this weather strip to help have a better seal between the glass and body. This should help stop wind noise and water from coming in.

Hi guys, here is an update and a heads up. The only major thing missing in the car are the door panels. I was going to install them yesterday and found that the bump on the panel that is right on top of the speaker makes contact with the side of the dash. This will not allow the doors to close. Looking back at the door install it might be all my fault. I didn't wanted to have a big gap in the area in the picture so I might have installed the door too forward on the car. This would explain why I had to replace the FFR provided short strikers for other longer ones.

https://vk3lbw.sn2.livefilestore.com/y1p8-HbcNoStR4YHsqLwGfo_4yI1sQiVlOEwFXryJMuiiAss2HZ6zRP uMwcvigNJfxBTTLPVig-ET1eKgOrj0cx1-wUfD2b0NoZ/IMG_2019.JPG?psid=1

Having the door forward might be the reason why the cover touches the dash when closing the door. It will just be a matter of cutting the panel to make space for the dash. I'm not to worried about it, I trust Juan's ability to cover that hole with something that will look amazing. But, be sure to test fit the door panel with the dash installed so you don't run into this same situation. Especially if your door is a bit more forward than what FFR intended.

I'm sorry I don't have a part number for either one of them. I got them at a local mom and pop store. They sell a lot of different type of weather stripping. I'm not even sure if they use a part number system in that store. I will ask them and see if they are willing to give out a part number for them and let you guys know.

Hugo,
I think you're spot on. Tom helped me with my doors after I had initally fitted them. The first thing he did was adjust them out and aft. I don't know if there is a "one correct position" for these doors, but placing them in an out and aft postion (you will be taking material from the aft edge) makes room for the dash pods/door panels ands helps greatly with fitting the glass.

Hi Hugo,

When I test fitted the dash and door panels, I had about 1/2" on the drivers side and the passenger side would hit the door panel when the door was closed. Thats what got me working on the glove box,I ended cutting about 1" off the side pod when I made the opening for the glove box.

No worries. It is also very easy to mold the aft portion to the contour of the door for a very "stock" look.

I don't have a part number for the smaller one Hugo used for the interior side. I am using the one from the kit there.

When I test fitted the dash and door panels, I had about 1/2" on the drivers side and the passenger side would hit the door panel when the door was closed. Thats what got me working on the glove box,I ended cutting about 1" off the side pod when I made the opening for the glove box.

Hugo, Mike,

I had the same problem with the passenger door, and also ended up cutting 1" off the dash pod. Don't know if fore/aft and in/out movement of the door would have helped, but by the time in the build I discovered the problem it was too late. Cutting the dash pod was quick and easy!

Too late for me guys. The dash is already upholstered and installed. The best solution at this point seems to work on the panels. Mike the glove box idea its an excellent one. This Carr really needs some place to store at least the registration and other paperwork stuff. I might add a pocket behind the passenger seat for those.

I don't have a part number for the smaller one Hugo used for the interior side. I am using the one from the kit there.

V,
Don't have a part number for the interior one either but this picture might help identify it. The lip on this one is shorter and the trim is rubber.

Gene,
The update is done via email. They send you the files which you download to an SD card. On the back of the screen there is a slot for the SD card. You insert the SD card with the screen off, power it up and it will automatically upload the file from the card in about a minute. Turn the power off again remove the card and you are done.

Reminds me of my old Landrover, you could program it to tell you status on start up. One of the voices had a sexy British female accent, if I interrupted her during the start up she would say "come again" my wife got real sick of me cutting the voice off with "Blow me". It was fun while it lasted, especially when one night the wife said "little juvenile don't ya think" I said I was talking to you. Who would have thought the shifter could be removed and used as a weapon so quickly.

I also changed the shifter adjustment on my shifter for the Mendeola. The shift feel and gate is now as smooth as any production car. Before the gate between shifts felt too close. This was especially uncomfortable when shifting to fifth gear, I was always worried I might get it in to reverse instead of fifth. Fourth gear was also a tad difficult to engage some times. I have to give credit to Kenny for this new adjustment settings. After having trouble with his GTM (the green twin turbo) at the half mile event he started working on the different adjustments and came up with the ones I will try to describe below for those who might have the same issues.

All adjustments at the front are per FFR install instructions. The changes will be made at the rear.

1. Adjust the shifter cables at the rear bracket so that on the inner cable you'll have about 1/2-5/8" of threads showing (Number 1 in the picture). On the outer cable leave about 1/4" showing. (Number 2 in the picture)

https://vk3lbw.sn2.livefilestore.com/y1phOFlcRLsNUBQH-njR0_WNKcSH78uAfhOjf1saxlS_3JHjfEBhCfVQO2q8B0Wjgc8-KG9nqw6mbt58Wo9CkUtcITA4rV5ILOK/IMG_2064%20number.JPG?psid=1

2. At the end of the cables adjust the inner one so that you will have 7/16-1/4" of threads showing (Number 3 in the picture). On the inner one adjust it to have 1/4" of threads showing. (Number 4 in the picture)

https://vk3lbw.sn2.livefilestore.com/y1pNrpHmq5eRjM4sX0qpRS-Fr4dG9NMWwkkHPcjpaNSTa3jxamhu3pM0y2kMeb1k8w-yEIBMCnTZAPbQvJtwSnWuTN9icf9OGEl/IMG_2065%20number.JPG?psid=1

3. There is a link at the rear of the transaxle that has some numbers engraved on it. remove the lower side of it and turn it counter clockwise so you can achieve a 1/8" gap between its lower part and its upper part (see picture)

https://vk3lbw.sn2.livefilestore.com/y1ppsb1XGZ4TMh_tdIxslqWpd4h1IZRRwXrIX_UddYxjeKpi8S 2By_3-56jO3RmTS7syo76ySAKSCDawRvoVhPC84YESsBSuv90/IMG_2067.JPG?psid=1

4. The outer shifter cable its attached to the transaxle at the in the outer shifter selector lever. FFR recommends using the upper threaded hole on this lever. This is to have the closest shifter lever ratio as possible. The original location was the lower hole and its the one Mendeola originally intended for the shifter. FFR requested the higher one to make the shifter travel less distance and give a more sports car like feel on the lever. This in my case made the shifter gate too close between shifts to the point it was comfortable and the lever required more effort to be moved between shifts. Using the slower hole will make the lever softer to shift and the gate more "open". When you remove the stud from the upper position and install it in the lower one make sure the threads wont go all the way Thur the lever and contact the lever on the other side as the lever is thinner at the bottom. This would cause the levers to jam against each other. Just cut part of the threads enough so that it wont go thru.

https://vk3lbw.sn2.livefilestore.com/y1pSa6BCE0_hYsDslQEz4Owt0HislnfPj_3RecuDyZ5b34oAdg RLzTMmPkOJjkF9-ohPHi2w1Z8_ioXYVivwZ_a07lgeINiU9_E/IMG_2070.JPG?psid=1

If you installed a short shifter on your car you should be done. Start the car with the rear wheels in the air and test a all the shifts including reverse.

5. If you have trouble shifting in to reverse or you don't have a short shifter you may have interference in the shifter assembly due to the longer travel in the shifter. You will have to remove some material (circled area on the picture) from the shifter base until the outer plastic lever on the unit clears that area. Sorry about the bad quality picture of the shifter but I don't have a good one ad this is the best I could find in Google.

https://vk3lbw.sn2.livefilestore.com/y1pm6QcNXWqL9xF-uQvDvF_wIs2ifCEyGLGpcg6C3pChiI6M6lWtIDa31_FxGx2NGo F8It8XM1TvLxWunNk2oAwwnsR6adjRP5R/trd_quickshifter.jpg?psid=1
DISCLAMER: This worked for both of our cars but I'm not saying it will for all cars with the Mendeola unit. if you decide to try this do it at your own risk and write down your original setting so that in case you don't like the new ones you can go back to them.

Unfortunately the ISIS doesn't do engine management. You'll need to rework or purchase a stand-alone engine harness to get rid of the stock UHFB to end up with a smaller fuse/relay section.

Kempo you have done a lot of customization with this beauty. On top of the kit price and engine do you feel comfortable ball parking how much you have spent on extras or giving a range (seats, ISIS, badges, Kooks exhaust, etc.)? If not I understand, I am making a list of the extras I am going to add to my GTM and there are so many things you have done that I LOVE. All I can say is phenomenal build!

Gene,

If I recall correctly the wiring on it was as follows. To activate the compressor there is a green wire that comes out of the larger connector on the VA ECU that one goes to the compressor relay. That compressor relay has a blue wire on it that activates the compressor. In my case my engine harness has a compressor signal input where this blue wire gets hooked up to. After that it goes thru the trinary GM switch that goes in the VA hose and activates the compressor when there is enough freon gas pressure in the system or the pressure isn't too high in the system. I don't really know if that signal goes to the engine ECU or is just routed inside the harness to the trinary switch and the compressor clutch.

For power you will need a switch on power output to power the VA system when the ignition is on. I believe that was the violet wire from the VA harness. The Inviroment from ISIS has the same 2 connectors as the VA ecu. instead of connecting the VA knob controls you just connect the Inviroment and it will automatically interface with ISIS.

My engine harness also has two outputs to turn the fans on when the A/C is turned on. This will start the fans even if the coolant temp is too cold for the fans to start. The other wire I have is for a wide open throttle switch. This will turn off the compressor clutch at WOT.

Hope this helps.

I'm planing on reinforcing the panel behind the radiator and install it there. That way the hot air from the radiator will help keep the pressure high inside the bottle. I don't think the area you are thinking about is big enough for a 10# bottle. Your head would be too close to the bottle. Jim I think that 5# bottle is the way to go. Thanks for that picture. I'm going single stage. I plan on using it for the half mile events.

Yes, I had seen it but for my application I found a much simpler system. It is made by zex nitrous and is designed for the LS engines. Takes the signal of the Throttle-By-Wire to activate the system at WOT. It also has a perimeter plate for the throttle to better distribute the nitrous. Found a great deal on eBay. Thanks for the heads up though.

Hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Not sure about tuning. The guy doing the tuning might take a bit longer to have some time to tune it. I will try to have it done by the time you get here.

V,
I will try.

I have to blame the Atom for that.

Hugo,
I have been doing research on their LS engine specific ,throttle by wire, kits. Just waiting to get the body off the chassis again.

In your opinion, is the Perimeter Plate's performance (compared to the standard nozzle) worth the additional ~$300?

Vidal,

To be honest I have no idea. This is my first nitrous system install ever. I do have a friend that has lots of experience using and installing these systems. I opted for this one for two reasons. 1. My buddy said that this one offers ease of installation because I wont have to wire a the system to a switch on my throttle pedal to activate the system. 2. Using a plate on behind the throttle body makes for an clean looking install and having 12 injection points seemed more efficient than the old single nozzle (Just my opinion as I have no experience with either one)

Yesterday I started the head, intake and cam install. Sorry Vidal no video. I do have a few pictures though. For those planning on using the FAST 102 intake here is a heads up, it will not fit without modifying the firewall. It sits further higher and forward than the stock LS3 intake. The rest of the disassembly went smoothly.

Removal of the cam was a no go. It would come out about 6-10 inches before hitting the horizontal tube in front of the engine. You will have to remove the engine mount nuts at the lower part of the mount and lift the engine 2-3 inches for the cam to clear that tube.

https://vk3lbw.sn2.livefilestore.com/y1p3-sQVxnUoKlbIu5TQhS0NeQxCWKBlbT2G0UZyzD_uskU88DKP-OqLQ3meCSNv_r2pHNImAJ8o6AFHQZoq76tWQsgHIjFIdyS/IMG_2092.JPG?psid=1

It was my understanding that all LS3 engines came with a single bolt cam sprocket configuration. Because of this I ordered a single bolt cam. To my surprise my engine has the 3 bolt configuration. Probably because it is an LS376/480 and maybe GM uses the 3 bolt cam. This means I had to stop the install to get the single bolt cam sprocket. I should have it at my store but I don't have the bolt. I hope the local GM distributor has it so I can continue with the install at the beginning of this week.

The tuning on the car done by Steve Kan definitely seems to be spot on as shown on the color inside the exhaust and the pistons. I highly recommend him for any tuning you guys may need. He is located at Texas. In case you are not located at Texas he can travel to your location if you get a group of at least five cars to tune. They don't need to be GM he tunes almost any car including rotary engines. If anyone needs his contact info shoot me a PM.

Here is an update on my build. I have a friend in need of an LS engine for a project. Since I now have an extra set of heads and was going to install a stroker rotating assembly on my block I ended up ordering a 418 short block and selling mine to my buddy. The new short block arrived today and should be in the car in the next couple of weeks. Aaron from Texas Speed and performance was very helpful in choosing all the components for the short block. It has Wiseco forged pistons, Lunati rods and crankshaft and ARP fasteners.

Pretty cool man. So tell me, what was it like hitting 140+ in a car you really never drove before? How did it drive, how did it compare to you Atom. Did the body of the GTM feel like it was going to fly off. Or was it comfortable?

And I just noticed your latest pics are red X's, may just be my connection?

Wow, is there anything left from the backed of your car when you get done with this 'upgrade'?? Glad to hear you've had a good experience with TSP as I'm looking at having them either build me a long block or buy the pieces much like you have to put it together my self. So I'm assuming that that is a LS3 block stroked to the 418? Any reason you didn't go up to the 427/429 that they offer?

Gene,
The car felt solidly planted on the road and the body didn't have any issues. No weird vibrations anywhere either. Against the atom from 0-100 it really is a no contest. I have never driven anything as quick as the Atom in that range of speed. The closest thing is a friend's 900WHP Nissan GT-R. After 100 Things kind of get matched between the GTM and the Atom. The lack of an aerodynamic body on the Atom holds it back at 100+ MPH.

Yes it is an LS3 block stroked to 418. I went with the 418 because I originally ordered a rotating assembly to install in my block. If I ordered the 427 instead that would require to bore the LS3 cylinders so much that it would only allow for one more oversize bore or maybe none in the future. After that a buddy of mine decided he would buy my current LS3 so I just added the block to my order. About TSP I highly recommend them. Aaron spent a lot of time explaining me the different options for the set up I wanted. Fast shipping and everything was in stock.

The cam degree is now set. I used a cool timing kit from Cloyes that has a eccentric insert in the camshaft sprocket that allows for cam advance and retard up to 2 degrees. The crankshaft sprocket also has 3 positions to allow for even more adjustment.

Thanks Mike. Here it's another update.

The engine and trans are back in the car. For those using the Mendeola the following is a word of advise. Remove from your chassis subframe the rear mounting points for the Porsche transaxle. It will make future servicing of the engine or trans easier when removing the subframe is required. Without this mounts the subframe can be easily tilted upward when the body is already installed.

Thanks John. Today was a very cool day. I went to the dyno with the car and Mikespms met me there with his dad and his son. Very nice guys. It was a pleasure to finally meet you in person. Didn't have any issues during the dyno runs. I was able to tune to a safe AFR and removed all knock. I ended up with 499WHP and 470Ft/Lb of torque. Tuning using HP tuners is new for me so I'm sure there might be some more power hiding in the tune. I have a buddy that is very experienced with HP tuners so we will go back there soon to see what else he can get out of it. Mike took some video and said he will upload it to YouTube. Although the car is been done for some time now I've been doing a few changes and upgrades. The pressure cap on my header tank kept allowing coolant out when the car was hot due to expansion. Seems like its volume is not enough for the amount of expansion of the coolant in the system. After the car cools down the header tank is almost empty and when I start the car after it cools down the system sucks air until the coolant expands again. After that happens I still had some air trapped at the radiator's upper right corner as there isn't an tank there anymore. This meant I had to constantly bleed the air from the radiator using a bleed valve I left there and add water to the header tank to prevent the system getting air running thru it. The solution to the problem was adding a coolant overflow reservoir. The coolant coming out of the header tank goes to this overflow reservoir and when the engine cools down it sucks the coolant back from the reservoir to the header tank. I didn't wanted to use a plastic reservoir like most car manufactures use and ruin the looks of the car so I used an aluminum oil catch can with 1 liter volume. I feel like the car is missing a bit more of black so I requested Taz to photo shop me a few options of black roof configurations on my car. He did an awesome job. Thanks Taz!!!! This design is the one I liked the best. Did a test using Plasti Dip to see how it looks in 3D. What do you guys think?

Hugo,

Very nice. I have that same catch can that I will be using as a catch for the transaxle. I really like how you've used it and will now consider a second one for use just as you have.

Now to find a suitable location..........

I like the black, as you have it in the first and third pictures, but not so much in the other two picture angles. Maybe a Plasti Dip preview, with the entire roof in black, as on the yellow FFR GTM.......

I like the roof black, a lot. I might suggest a second thin line (painted Black pin stripe) that runs from the corner of the windshield along the length of the painted area rounding around the bottom of the back glass. Or put a very thin 1/16 of an inch color over the white/black edge so that corner of the windshield would not stick out so much. Can be charcoal, silver does need to pop, just blend and define at the same time. I like it better then the all white even with that ackward corner.

Thanks for the heads up on the coolant tank. I will upgrade.

It also allows to see the coolant level in it with a small hose and fittings on its side.

That's very interesting. I will add it to the list of things to possibly address, but I must say that, so far, you are the only one who has said that the 1.25 liter header tank has had an issue running dry. Did you run it through a few heat cycles to get everything bled out as far as air? On the race car, once everything is bled after a couple of heat cycles, the tank level only varies about 1 inch or so within the header tank from cold to hot. We did have an issue when the head gasket went on an engine where it was constantly needing water to be added, but that is to be expected. Overflow tank is always a good idea as it ensures the header tank remains full, but certainly not a requirement.

Sorry Crash, I had not seen this post. Yes, I ran the car a few heat cycles and always had the same issue when the car cooled down it didn't had a coolant source to "refill" itself as the systems cools. I've been thinking about it and my problem might have been caused because of the way the hoses are attached to my header tank. Instead of a T at the bottom I added two tubes at the bottom one for each hose. Maybe at high RPMs the hose sending coolant from the engine to the tank its helping the pressure that is already in the system open the cap as it points directly to it. Although I haven't had any more problems with the overflow tank in the car.

Finally painted the roof. I took Kalstar's advice and asked Wally to paint a line thin line in order to get rid of the awkward corner. Wally also widened the area close to the windshield to help eliminate that corner.

This is the corner I'm referring to.

Good show Kempo,

Thanks for the updates.

Thanks Gene.

Here are some more updates. The first one is on the coolant overflow reservoir. I have used the car a few times after installing it and its working as expected. Haven't had to add coolant again. The following picture will give you an idea on how much the coolant in the system is expanding. With the header tank almost full when cold and the overflow reservoir empty you can see how much coolant is sent to the overflow tank. The tank has a capacity of 1 liter (1.05 quart) and it gets a bit more than half full. When the car cools down it all goes back to the header tank.

The other thing I did this week was install the diffuser strakes and the hatch louvers. I had used epoxy to glue the louvers to the hatch but they kept getting loose. I decided to use some stainless steel #4 button head bolts painted black. Problem solved.

Thanks guys. Gene, The car is running great. This month marks one year since its been registered and its been a fun one. As an example here is a short story. A friend is producing a calendar for the Durex company. The calendar will have exotic cars and of course lots of girls in it. He asked me if I could take the car to the studio for the photo shoot and I agreed. My car was the last one to arrive at the shoot. When I arrived the following cars were already there two Ferraris a 458 and a 430, Lamborghini Gallardo, C7 Corvette, Mercedes SLS AMG and a 911. As soon as I parked all those cars basically disappeared and everyone went over to look at the GTM and ask questions about it. At one point the GTM was in the studio along with the Gallardo and the 458. There was a group guys from the production team talking about the cars and I overheard them taking about the cars. They were saying how beautiful all three are and how exotic the GTM is. They also wondered how much more expensive the GTM was compared to the other two LOL. At that point I walked over and started talking to them. They were sure I was kidding when I told them the GTM was the least expensive car there and that its was a component car.

It was a very cool day. The GTM was chosen as the cover car for the calendar over all the others. Here are a few low quality pictures I took with my cel. When I get a copy of the calendar and the professional pictures I will post them on the forum.

I love it when posts like this pop up as its a great reminder for new GTM builders like myself that there are amazingly documented builds that I need to go back and read up on in my spare time (what's that by the way LOL).

Thanks for posting!!
