Thanks for the kind words Joe. I used a knockout punch tool for the holes. Like the ones used by electricians to punch holes for conduits on electrical boxes. I used the 2" die and then used a sheet metal snip to trim the holes to the same size of the duct. They ended up at about 2 3/4". After that was cut I added a plastic trim to protect the duct from the aluminum. The knockout tool looks like the one on the link below.

Here are a few more pictures. I Really like the speed sensor ring integrated to one of the CV flanges. This should eliminate the need for the FFR supplied ring.

The upgrades from Mendeola continued until the last days before shipping. I know that Joe had to modify part of his bell housing to engine mating surface and change some bolts on his engine to have the required clearance for the engine an trans axle to mate. This was reported to Mendeola and they machined the mating surface to solve the problem. At some degree the wait has made for a better product being delivered. The machined area can be seen in this picture on the upper part of the bell housing.

Not at the moment but I plan on doing some upgrades in the future and wanted to have that covered. The softer pedal feel from the twin disc is also a plus.

The photo of the exposed clutch appears to be much thicker than a stock LS1 clutch. I've done a handful of T-56 clutch replacements and they do not appear to be
the height of the yellow pressure plate hardware. Here are some photos of my old SS and an aftermarket single disc setup. It's tough to tell
perspective, but look at the distance to the top of the rounded edge compared to the bolts.

That is a huge relief Joe. BTW got your package yesterday thanks again.
The area that I had to grind had already been machined by Mendeola. I had to grind about a 1/8" to the right side to have the PP clear the trans axle.

I don't know for sure, I'd be guessing to give you a figure right now. I'm going to estimate about an inch from the top of
the bellhousing to the fingers of the pressure plate (from a straight edge across the bell-housing). The slave unit that you
see in the middle photo sits between the fingers and the T-56 transmission recessed on the transmission faceplate inside
some webbing.

Lookin good.
I have never run the gaskets. I just use silicone.
On another note, and I don't know if Mendeola addressed this with the FFR specific transaxles or not, but in my experience with Mendeola flanged output hubs, as well as the www.myraceshop.com stub axles, you CAN NOT run the "dust cover" that goes over the back of the CV. In a stock configuration there is no locating ring for the CV and thus you can use the dust covers, but on the Mendeola and MRS parts you can not use these. The clearance is too tight and the dust cover not only will be destroyed, but it will then provide a path for CV joint grease to leak out. Just an FYI, and maybe Mendeola has changed this on the FFR SDR. I don't know. Ian?
Kempo
01-03-2012, 01:33 PM
You are correct Crash. There is a locating ring on the output hubs that will not allow for that dust cover.

I had a local shop make the hydraulic hose for the clutch. I installed it and the speed sensor using the line to route the speed sensor wiring.

Most of the parts are installed. I was worried about the fitment of Shane's wing mount. It fits perfectly in this new sub frame design. We will be doing a final body install tonight to verify that everything lines up. After that we will remove it and all that will be needed to be done before karting is a brake-in procedure that requires to go thru the gears several times with the car in the air. after that just zip tying a few hoses and wires under the car and some miscellaneous stuff to prevent dragging those down the road. I will post a video of that soon (hopefully)

Awesome Hugo! Congratulations! You have just built a running and driving super car in your garage. That's an achievement few can claim.
Boy it must be nice to live in a warm climate. Taking your car out for a karting test in January and picking up stones with hot tires. What a great thing. Gotta say that would not happen here in the northeast where it was 16 degrees yesterday and sleating today.
Make sure to get plenty of video.

So the question, which is faster, the Atom or the GTM?
Kempo
01-17-2012, 06:03 PM
Thanks guys.Beautiful day indeed John. Jim, I'm not sure yet which one is faster yet but, I'm definitely planing on finding out. The Atom is hard to beat at the 0-100 MPH mark. It has 350WHP on a 1400 pound car. RumRunner can speak about how fast the Atom is as he took a ride in it during his visit to PR. After 100MPH the GTM should have a huge advantage with its aerodynamics. The Atom kind of hits a wall of air after that speed although I have gotten to 140 in it a the track that has the longest straight here. Ill keep you guys posted on what that comparison reveals.
Here is another video. On this one you guys can see how easy it is now to engage reverse towards the end of the video. the first night I took the Carr out it was much mode difficult.

The clutch feels very good. Pedal feel just like on a stock C6 Z06. Maybe a bit harder but not much. The engagement from a dead stop is as smooth as any OEM clutch. My speedo is not working at the moment because I haven't done the calibration procedure for it but, the sensor is definitely reading the pulses from the transaxle's output hub because the odometer has registered a few miles run. The shift patern is felt very defined in the shifter lever.
A big thanks back at you Ian. The support given by Ian during the install has been excellent. He has answered every single question I have had and more. After a few of my posts that have had just the slightest hint of a doubt on something and I have received a call from Mendeola to make sure I'm clear on the procedure. Big thumbs up for them.

I tried to install the mounts that came with the kook's exhaust. They are to long to be used with the Mendeola trans axle and its mount. There was no way I could figure out how to install them. I came up with the following solution. Welded a steel plate to each side of the transmission mount. Took off about an inch and quarter from the clamp mount shank. I can now have some up and down adjustment by using a nut on top and a nut below the metal plate. This should help line up the exhaust tips with the openings on the body. Here are a few pictures of it almost ready. I painted it today so it should be finished tomorrow.
The beautiful weld here were not done by me BTW. They were done by my friend Fill. Thanks Fill!!!!!!

Today I received and installed the short shifter. It is definitely an improvement in looks over the FFR supplied one. The one from FFR sits too tall and has a bend on it that takes the lever too far away from the driver IMO. The bend on this one is less than the stock one. I haven't test driven it yet but I think the shifts won't be harder to engage with this shorter unit. Here are a few before and after and comparison pictures.
The stock one is about 8 inches measured from the base.

From the side by side picture of the stock vs short throw it looks like the shifter is roughly three inches shorter above the pivot and maybe .25 inches longer below. Is that correct? I am tempted to try to modify the stock shifter to match your eBay shifter.

John, those measurements are about right. I think it can be modified as you mention. Don't know if it will slide but, to add the .25 in longer at the bottom you can probably move the pivot ball higher in the lever with a press. If you look at it in the picture it has splines that hold the ball in place. It might even be possible to remove and rotate that pivot ball so that the bend on the lever would make the knob get closer to the driver instead of away from the driver as it sits in stock form. I can also be cut to the desired length and then re-welded. Its definitely possible especially for someone with your craftsman skills. I went the chicken sh*t route with the eBay short shifter. :o

Cool I can try and if I fail i can just go the 99 dollar route.
I was thinking cut off the upper length of shifter rod right over the ball. Press the remainder of rod down 1/4 inch into the ball. trim the upper shift rod down. Drop whats left on the upper rod back into the ball and weld it up. If i am ambitious ill remake the upper rod from stainless to remove the kink and grove. However at the end of the day 99 dollars is a really good price for a 15 min fix vs a 2 hour plus the cost of materials fix.
If i would stop messing around with my seat tracks maybe I could make progress on somthing else.

The dual FFR cold air intake cant be used with the LS3 engine. GM recommends that the MAF sensor on the LS3 be installed on a 4" diameter tube with a straight section for the MAF. With the help of RumRunner I ordered this setup. I also had to cut Shane's carbon fiber engine cover so it could fit with this intake.

I'm not planning on running the defroster hoses. There really isn't any use for them in my weather. I wont be installing a radio on the car and will try to use that space to add an amplifier or some sort of device with an input for my iPhone that can also run a set of speakers in the doors. almost any amplifier can be used with your iPhone, mount the speakers, hook up the amp to the speakers, get a cable that has 1/8 inch jack (looks like headphone jack that came with phone) on one end and RCA's on the other, it will plug right into the amp. connect the small wire that usually goes from the stereo to the amp (most of the time it is blue) to power that is only on when the key is on. start with the gains on the amp low, use the volume control on the phone to adjust, move the amp gains up until you reach the max volume you want before distortion and clipping.

Vidal,
I'm not planning on running the defroster hoses. There really isn't any use for them in my weather. I wont be installing a radio on the car and will try to use that space to add an amplifier or some sort of device with an input for my iPhone that can also run a set of speakers in the doors. Haven't done research on which device can do this and I don't know a lot about sound systems. Not sure if what I want exist so if any of you guys know any help will be appreciated.
Hugo,
I considered using my smart phone as you plan. The best option for this will be a Parrot-MKi9100 ( http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_18430_Parrot-MKi9100.html )or similar device. The Parrot-MKi9100 will work without a headunit as it has a built in amplifier. It streams phone and media via Bluetooth or hard connection. It comes with both iPod/ iPhone and USB connectors and has a small LCD screen. This will allow you to use your iphone as a fully functioning mobile unit when connected.
I installed an Ultimate Hands Free Solution in my commuter last week. It streams media and full phone functions via Bluetooth and functions extremely well. It evens sends the navigation voice prompts to the car’s front speakers. This unit is on the low end of the price range of similar units; however it may not have the volume to overcome the ground floor in the GTM.

Anyone with ideas on how to make the FFR Dual Cold air intake work with the LS3?
Radkat
The dual FFR cold air intake cant be used with the LS3 engine. GM recommends that the MAF sensor on the LS3 be installed on a 4" diameter tube with a straight section for the MAF. With the help of RumRunner I ordered this setup. I also had to cut Shane's carbon fiber engine cover so it could fit with this intake.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys.
On the intake subject here is my take on it and the reason why I went with the single 4" intake. You could run the FFR intake using one side and it will definitely run. It will not run as efficient as it could though. The sensor is calibrated for the amount of air going thru it based on a 4" diameter pipe. If you use the smaller one the reading will be off. I'm not sure if by using HP tuners you could tune this out by changing the MAF frequency. Maybe some of the experienced HP users can chime in. In my opinion even if you are able to tune this out you will still have the problem that just one of the sides of the FFR intake might not be enough for the 6.2 engine to "breathe". That might cost a significant amount of HP. Below is a link to the GM installation guide and a copy/paste of the MAF sensor install section from page 1.
BTW, my dual FFR intake is for sale in case someone is interested just send me a PM
http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/_res/pdf/installation_guides/ls_engines/LS_Engine_Control_System.pdf
Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
NOTE: It is critical that the MAF sensor is mounted per the
instructions below. Vehicle performance and/or driveability may
be affected if it is not mounted as recommended.
The mass air flow sensor must be installed in the induction
system using the supplied MAF sensor mounting boss. The
induction system should be 4 inches in diameter and have a
minimum straight section 6 inches in length. Mount the MAF
sensor in the middle of the straight induction section, ensuring
that the middle of the mounting boss is at least 10 inches from
the throttle body.
The MAF sensor must be oriented correctly in the induction
system – note the arrow on the sensor indicating flow
direction. Be sure to weld the mounting boss correctly –
the sensor will only mount one way in the boss (see diagram).
Weld the boss in place before installing the sensor.
When installed in the vehicle, the MAF sensor should be
mounted with the connector end pointing between horizontal and
fully upright – do not mount with the connector oriented downward.

"In my opinion even if you are able to tune this out you will still have the problem that just one of the sides of the FFR intake might not be enough
for the 6.2 engine to "breathe". That might cost a significant amount of HP"
I'll have to check out the FFR intake before commenting, but I'm going to say the restriciton in the system is usually the filter and not the diameter of the
pipe (being 3"). This is all based on engine displacement and RPM for the amount of HP that can be produced. I'm fairly certain without calculating that
three inch diameter tube will flow enough to support over 600 HP.
Then of course, the exhaust flow must be able to handle what you want to get into the engine. What goes in...must come out!
Look up a man by the name of David Vizard who has done testing on this sort of problem, or check out a book titled, "Scientific Design of Exhaust and Intake Systems"
if you're into the math behind it all.
On the intake subject here is my take on it and the reason why I went with the single 4" intake.
For a dual intake system, the flow is only as good as the smallest cross section. If there is any gain in a dual/y-type tube
going into a common plenum, it is likely from the addition of a second air filter. This would allow more surface area over the
filter element with less restriction for air to enter the engine.
I think you're as good as gold with a single 4 inch setup, and the proper size filter for the maximum RPM you plan to spin.

Are you asking about a set up like this?
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb94/jmichaelbaskin/DSCN0450.jpg
I just used the standard Mass Airflow Meter for the LS2 (in my case).
You just need the stock MAF meter bolted to your intake manifold. Make sure that you have the correct pigtail and connector.
If you call Speedway Motors directly, and tell them what you're doing, they can either sell you the correct parts or make them for you.
You'll need the pin diagrams if you have to splice into the wiring harness.
Contact a Chevrolet dealership, with a GMPP department, and they'll be able to get you a copy of the diagram.
I worked with "City Chevrolet" in Charlotte. Owned by Rick Hendrick (NASCAR). He has one of the most up to date and knowledgable GM Performamce Parts centers going...
Let me know if I can help, and I'll do my best.

I had no idea the old style MAF could be used with the LS3 instead of the cartridge type. If I would have known I would have done that and used the FFR intake I already had. IMO It looks better than my 4" set up. I'm too late now as I have already cut my CF engine cover.

I plan on keeping my 4" intake, and I haven't cut my CF cover at all. I'd be happy to swap covers since yours is already cut (and I know it will fit my LS3), if you want to go back to the FFR dual intake. Let me know.

I showed him the insulation material for the tunnel and firewall I got from quiet ride. He sad that material would not allow the suede to look smooth when glued to it. I asked what could be done to make it look smooth as it should. He pulled from his car a special upholstery cardboard like material and he started making covers for each panel. This covers will be upholstered as a single large panel for each side and attached with plastic pins to the panels over the insulation material. These same plastic pins will be used in the inside door panels. They will be installed to the panel and then covered as the tunnel liners so the pins will not be seen. I like this solution. With it I won have to use bolts in the door panels.

You may want to consider modifying the body on the front wheel well to ensure you have clearance and no rubbing with the tire. You may or may not have a problem. Thanks Carbon, if you are talking about the bump that is on the left side that looks like the one on the right side of the center A/C vents it is that the material is coming of from the fiberglass shell that makes the dash. If you also look at the area where the radio would be on the dash it is also unglued from the shell. I think they used a low quality glue in there or just didn't apply it correctly.

here is an update. Some more wiring details have been taken care of, installed the whole interior for fitment purposes and removed it for upholstering. Hopefully I will be able to post some pictures of it soon. The dash, firewall, engine cover, shifter boot, Parking brake handle and its boot and door panels are done. The only thing missing are the seats and some covers for the tunnel aluminum panels. The interior is being done in black leather and Alcantara. The body was also removed for the final clear coat.
Here are some pictures during the upholstery work. Leather still wasn't completely glued when this were taken.

Very Nice work Hugo. That is going to look extremely clean, well planned, and GOOD!!! I can't wait to see it.
You know, it just occured to me that there is a growing list of extremely nice GTMs that will likely finish up at about the same time.
It would be awesome to be able to put some sort of Factory GTM Owners meet together. I know that there is the Open house that FFR holds each year, and I'm planning to be there with my car. But it would be very cool to do something more centralized so that more people could take part. Maybe not just GTM's, but all of the various FFR cars.
It might be something to think about anyway.

Hi Kempo, looks good, what kind of brake fluid are you using?
Kempo

Gene, at the moment I'm using ATE super blue racing fluid. When the time for a change comes I alternate it with ATE Type 200 (Amber) By alternating them I can identify easier when the new fluid has reached the caliper because of the color difference.

An update and a some info about a steering wheel quick release unit. After seeing a video of how to "gracefully" get in and out of the GTM (BTW I'm not talking about Mike AKA The Stig lol) I decided to install a steering wheel quick release hub to have more room. Didn't like the idea of having the steering wheel 3" closer to me. After some research I found a unit from NR-G that is only 1.5 inches thick, fits directly to the FFR steering wheel hub and any MOMO,Sparco or the FFR steering wheel. The part number is SRK-400. After the steering wheel is on the hub and locked there is no free play between the parts. They mate together as solid as the direct bolt on method. It also has contact points and cables for the horn connection. It is available in a wide variety of colors including this one which has men's bling (AKA carbon fiber) on it. The colored ones are $129 and the CF one is $149 on eBay. Here are some pictures.

Yup, same one I have but without the carbon fiber look. Mine is crinkle black paint. I also modified my steering column mount, moving my column forward by about 1 1/2". So my wheel should be in the origional position after the quick release install.

Hugo,
It helps immensely. It makes getting in/out of the driver's side as easy as the passenger side. Yes, you loose about an inch, but its not an issue for me because I telescope my steering column aft to a comfortable driving position anyway.
For guys that don't have a telescopic column and/or slim quick release the tilt bump stop can be modified to allow the column to tilt more allowing more room for entry and exit.
How are your interior and final paint progressing?
Kempo
04-07-2012, 10:48 PM
The interior and body are coming along very nicely. At the last minute before the final clear coat I decided I wanted to have only the driver's side fuel filler cap. So I asked Wally to make the passenger side filler disappear. As usual he did an excellent job. The passenger fuel tank was also modified to seal the filler opening.

Aman, I don't really like too much the way the flat filler assembly fits on the round area where it seats. We tried to get it to sit as flush as possible in the lower side but it still wasn't flush enough. I rather have one than two like that.

It's no small feat on a freshly painted car to go back in and start from raw glass and bring it back up to paint able. It looks flawless. I'm with you 100% on how the stock cap just doesn't match the body curve. and having only one is only half as bad.
I'd never noted the body curve mismatch at the filler caps, not nearly close enough on my build yet. Thanks for the input! I'll consider doing the same. Maybe I can fit some type of charcoal canister and vent setup in that area now (where the filler hose and cap delete would be).
Thanks

Went to the dyno Tuesday night. The plan was to put some miles on the engine and transaxle. No tuning or HP runs just break in. It wasn't the smoothest dyno trip I have had. After a few miles on the dyno I had a leak on both inner CV joints. BIG mess!!!! Sprayed grease everywhere. So much for my clean build LOL. Apparently the gaskets I used on them didn't seal properly on the transaxle flange. Seems like the gaskets sit too close to the inner edge on the transaxle flange and might have slipped or got damaged when the bolts were tighten. I decided to remove the gaskets and use Reinzosil sealing compound. I will try to finish to put it all back together in the afternoon and hit the dyno again tonight or tomorrow. More to come.

Just an FYI. I have never recommended or used those gaskets. Seemed like an interesting idea as getting the silicone in there without grease contamination is tricky at best, That is all I have ever used though. Silicone sealant. Again, just make sure you clean the surfaces thouroughly with brake or carb clean to make sure the silicone adheres properly. Truthfully, getting the CVs to seal is not a fun part of this, or any build.
Good luck.

I was able to make it to the dyno yesterday. All worked as expected with no problems. Put a lot of miles on the drive-train and cycled thru the gears up and down. The shifter mechanism is working really smooth now in all gears. The PCM tune provided by Spearthech for the LS376/480 was spot on during all the cruising runs. I wasn't able to resist the temptation of doing a power run so before leaving so did a 3rd gear pull to 5500 RPMs. I'm happy with the results, this engine has a huge amount of torque on tap 415WHP and 411TQ without any tuning done on it. I'm sure there is a bit more power hiding in the tune but, if the GTM ends up weighing in at 2400 or less that should be more than enough to be faster than most of the cars that frequent the time trial events here.

Just putting miles on the car on top of the dyno didn't seem interesting enough. I should have known I wasn't going to be able to resist the temptation of doing at least one power pull. After a week without touching the car I decided today to do all the drilling and fitting of the under carriage panels and skid kit. Did a lot of drilling and still have some more to go. The skid kit is definitely a must for a car this low especially having the fiber glass body wrap around and under the chassis. A crape on a bump can mean disaster. As you can see in the first picture I have already scraped my chassis getting it on the trailer while having the ride height too low.

Thanks Michael, The lift I have is a Rotary lift 2 post asymmetrical with 10,000 pounds capacity. I opted for the asymmetrical type because it will allow you more clearance to open the doors of the car while on the lift compared to the symmetrical type. With the economy the way it has been you can find great deals on used ones from shops that have gone out of business. I bought mine second hand from a Ford dealership that went out of business. IIRC I paid $1600 installed. It has some cosmetic damage but it can be painted if you want a better look on it. Try to go with one from a solid company like Rotary,Bendpak etc. This things are fully rebuildable. If you get one of those made in china cheap ones you will save money but chances are that when you need parts no one will carry them.

Hi Don,
It is ready to be installed but not installed yet. The screen will be installed in the area where the radio would be on the dash. The screen is too big for that area so a mounting "frame" had to be made for the install. I don't have pictures of it at the moment but can take some for you on Monday and post them.

Hi Hugo,
Looking good, how is the body and interior coming? I like the way your cold air intake looks, where did you get your tubes.
Thanks Mike. The intake is from a company called Spectre Performance. Rum Runner recommended this company and gave me the list of parts he used. I ordered the same parts and it was a direct bolt on. The body is being in the polishing stage and should be ready to install in about a week or two. Wally is hasn't been able to put many hours on it lately. The interior parts are already upholstered and waiting for the body to go on to be installed. I will post some pictures of it later today when I get a chance to go by the upholsters shop in the afternoon.
Here is a list of the parts used on the intake:

Kempo, Have you mounted the "in Touch" screen yet?? If so where and how did you mount it? I want to add this to my build, but am not sure it will FIT!!!! Would love to see a picture!!!!!!!
I really have enjoyed watching your build. I have #376, not quite a far along as you are. But am really inspired by all your intonations!
Thanks, Don
Don,
here are some pictures of the inTouch. As you can see it is to tall for the space provided in the dash. In the other pictures is the solution used for the install. It was made with fiber glass, body filler and finished in black Alcantara.

I was finally able to work some more on the GTM. Finished the undercarriage panels and skid kit drilling. I also wanted to get rid of the gasoline fumes smell so I followed The Stig's suggestion about modifying two 4" lawn sprinklers and turning them in to carbon canisters. Got some sprinklers, brass fittings, clamps, aquarium filter carbon and two shower drain covers. Problem solved. No more fumes smell under the car.
https://public.sn2.livefilestore.com/y1p0VT8KfOjtnaN2xX5R51VusAoL5pyTcw4Fe5kvKzEhGCHEGD ckluor9TDTXvTewO1Ilny3yGSjiWJhftZkcuB4g/IMG_1610.JPG?psid=1
The sprinkler head idea came from "Weendoggie" from the Cobra forum. He had seen it and used it, and then when he saw that I had the same question, he passed it along to me... You've gotta love the people on this forum! The only thing that I can take credit for is that I realized that it was probably a good idea.
I'm glad to see that it worked for you as well.
Hey Guys, doesn't that kind of a charcoal canister eventually get saturated? There's no venting or evac from the canister? Curious how these have held up over the long term.

Hi Aman! It's been a while!
The top of the canister is vented by using a mesh screen cover. Only vapor travels through the charcoal where it is absorbed. I have mine mounted above the top of the tank. If you get actual fuel into the canister, I'm thinking that you may have bigger problems than saturating the charcoal. I think that if you mounted it below the tank, there may be a small chance of getting some traces of fuel into the canister. But I think you would have to be really thrashing the car around.
Here's a picture of mine. It's temporarily mounted to the frame rail until I can find a good place to mount it permanently.
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb94/jmichaelbaskin/GTM Parts/GTMCharcoalCanister02.jpg
Thanks Stig!
I should've been more clear. Even with the 'vent', I guess i'm wondering how long the charcoal would be absorbent for. In the OEM scenario, I think the intake supplies Vac to the canister at startup to draw off some of the absorbed vapours, thereby giving the charcoal some 'room' to absorb more.
Since these self-made canisters seem to be working, here's what I propose is happening. The charcoal absorbs vapours when car is standing, and the garage doesn't smell. When we drive them they get pretty hot (mounted in close proximity to engine) which probably evaporates off a lot of the absorbed fuel vapours, which we don't smell since we're moving along. Once back down to ambient temps (and stationary) there is more room left in the charcoal to absorb vapours.
That's my guess anyways
Thanks guys, been wrestling with what to do about evap canister for a while now.

Gene,
I have read nothing but good things about the RL. I decided not to install it because I didn't like the TC aluminum box. It doesn't look weather and heat resistant enough to have it in the engine compartment. The way it's wired if the system fails the car dies. I didn't want to install it anywhere inside the car and ruin the looks of the interior with the box. I'm sure some cover could have been made to hide it but just wasn't exited enough about the TC to complicate things with it.

For those using the Mendeola trans axle you will need a connector for the back up light switch. I asked Ian about it and he pointed me in the right direction. He told me to order a connector from Ron Francis Wiring part# pg-055. The description on the invoice says "Ford manual T5 trans backup light connector" that should help in case someone has a donor Mustang near by. Here are a few pictures of it.

Tino,
The initial setting I'm using is noted by those lines marked on the dial. Those were made by Genesis. The marking indicate where on the dial is the valving of the non adjustable shocks. Ted recommended starting there and adjust accordingly to the track/road conditions where the car will be used. I still haven't taken a test drive with them.

Thanks Mike. I'm using the stock FFR aluminum spacers, they were a perfect fit. QRP provided the springs, the fronts are Eibach and the rear are Hypercos. The front 375# rate hypercos were on back order so Ted offered the Eibach's in that same rate as an option. That's the reason for the different colors in the springs. I didn't mind the color difference since all 4 cant be seen and that will help to easily identify fronts from rear when they are off the car. The rears are 650#.

Just a word of caution. In the early days of coil near plug designs on the LS engines, one of the biggest problems was with heat saturation in the coils. You will notice that it was such an issue that there was a "special" truck coil made that had aluminum heat sinks. The newer coils do not seem to have as many issues, but I still see race teams directing fresh air to the coil packs for cooling and the shield you show there actually looks to be directing the heat of the header right at the coil packs. If you have any issues with spark when it's hot, you may want to reconsider how that shield is configured.

This week I added a "stopper" for the clutch pedal. I used one of the stoppers from the hood hinges. IMO it does its job better than a plain bolt without the rubber on top. This Saturday Steve Kan will be back in PR to tune some cars. I will be taking the GTM to be tuned by him. I will post some videos next week.

Just an opinion, but I believe you are exerting MUCH more force onto that stopper than it is designed for, so I would make sure that the stop is adjusted so that WHEN the rubber fails, the clutch does not overthrow...or you may end up with the same bad situation you had previously.
YMMV :)

Thanks for the input Crash but, I think the amount of force made by the corvette's hood when opened especially if opened on a windy day and the wind blowing from the rear of the vette would be much higher than what would be exerted by a foot trying to shift. I imagine that would act like a spinnaker on a sail boat. Of course if one decided to break it it can also be done with the foot but it would require a lot of pressure not the typical clutch pressing and stopping putting pressure when hitting the rubber. The contact area from the hinge on that rubber is about 1/4 of an inch on the vette. The area contacted by the pedal is about 1 inch of very smooth material. That should also distribute the force over a wider area of the rubber. I will definitely keep an eye on that rubber just to be safe. Thanks for the heads up.

Everything is ready for the dyno tuning session tomorrow. Car is in the trailer. I partially installed the rear firewall and engine cover so that the Steve Kan doesn't get nervous seeing the engine belt so close to his face while he tunes the car. Here are some pictures of the reupholstered engine cover and tank covers. Video coming soon.

Thanks John, I'm really happy with the outcome of the interior parts and the dyno tuning yesterday. The session went without any mechanical issues. Steve as usual did an amazing job with the tune. The idle and part throttle cruise are way batter than before. We ended up with 425 WHP and 423 ft/lbs TQ. This time we used a Mustang dyno instead of the Dynojet I had used before for the break in and that had given me the result of 415WHP and 411 ft/lbs TQ. The mustang dynos usually read about 10% less than the dynojet ones. Most people are used to results from the Dynojet ones since they are the most popular brand (At least they are in here) That result from the Mustang Dyno should equate to about 470 WHP on the Dyno Jet unit.
Here are two videos of the session. I apologize for the low audio. I used my go pro and forgot to remove it from the case and that reduces the sound.

Here is some info as a heads up for those of you using the Mendeola. I didn't quite liked the pedal feel on my car. I tried to leave the gap between the pressure plate and the throw out bearing and the clutch would not disengage the way it should. If I removed that gap the clutch had a good disengagement but that would have destroyed the throw out bearing in a short amount of time. So,I decided to change the clutch master cylinder to the next larger one in order to have more travel at the slave cylinder. The master cylinder I ordered was .813in (13/16)in bore diameter. The stock one is .750in (3/4). The Mendeola slave cylinder has a bore of 7/8 in and a maximum travel of 1 1/8in. That means that with the 13/16in master we still wont have the 1:1 stroke ratio and wont overextend the slave cylinder. A larger master could be used but that would make the pedal feel much heavier. Below are links to the master cyl I used and slave cylinder from Mendeola.
http://http://www.wilwood.com/MasterCylinders/MasterCylinderProd.aspx?itemno=260-5920 (http://www.wilwood.com/MasterCylinders/MasterCylinderProd.aspx?itemno=260-5920)
After the change the pedal feels a lot better and I have good clutch disengagement with the required gap between the pressure plate and the throw out bearing. I mentioned this to Joe Mush and he was having the same problem. He also switched to the 13/16 master cylinder and had the same results.
Hope this helps in case someone is having the same issue.

The diffuser, front lip and rocker panel extensions are also almost ready for the final clear coat. The front lip had a few voids along its edge. Jason from FFR suggested painting the edge to hide those voids. It sounded like a good idea so that's what we did.

Fraser the clear coat used on the diffuser and the other carbon parts is the same one we used on the rest of the body. they look matte at the moment because they were sanded in preparation for a second coat. The clear it's made by BASF and it's from their Glasurit line. I don't have the item number at the moment.
The voids were along the edge of the front lip especially in the passenger half of it. The resin along the edge also looked kind of white. It wasn't clear enough to show the CF weave thru it. The rest of the parts were OK.
You can see some of it in this pictures but there were a lot more than what the pictures show.

After reading reports of the radiator aluminum under tray flexing and braking at speed of 80 MPH or more I decided to reinforce it. At first I thought about using an aluminum angle bar along the edge. The only angle that looked strong enough for the job was a 3/4in. one. I didn't like the way it would look and was worried about what that 3/4 flat edge would do in terms of deflecting part of the air going into the radiator. The best solution I could come up with was to use a 1/2 inch square steel tube. I riveted it along the edge of the tray and I think it is stronger than what the aluminum angle could have ever been. The 1/2 in. tube fits perfectly behind the edge that is already on the aluminum so it is barely visible.
This is what I almost used.

I also installed the the half moon aluminum tray under the nose. Although It is not part of the Gen II I felt that the car really needs this part in order to have a finished look so I ordered one from FFR. Without it you can see the floor thru the radiator opening in the nose of the car. I used wide domed rivets to attach the splitter /half moon aluminum to the nose on order to better distribute the pressure along the CF splitter. In case you plan on doing the same here is some info about the rivets i had to use. The rivets had to have longer grip than the ones supplied by FFR. The ones used on the flat parts of the nose have a grip of .376-.500, for the "sloped" part of the nose a longer grip is required. I ordered ones with a grip of .501-.625 those should be able to sandwich together the three layers made by the splitter, nose and aluminum.

Hugo,
Very nice.
What did you do to avoid modding the aft of the aluminum so that it clears the
AC condenser when the Hood is open?
Kempo
08-08-2012, 11:03 AM
Vidal, instead of modding the aft of the panel I trimmed along the front until it cleared the condenser. I wanted to retain the bend at the rear of the panel as IMO it makes it more rigid.
