No sidelines just dumping out the side.

Hello all. I was wondering on the Mark 5 if anyone just dumps out the the side of the car. If so what did you do. How loud. Did you put anything in the exhaust to quite it down. I like the look of the mark 5 sides and just want to have an option.
    Thanks all.
    Paul.

See AAron's build thread. He made a muffler and exhaust system just as you described, but his was for a MkIV chassis. I'm not sure the exact same design would work on a Mk V

To me side pipes are just part of the cool factor of a Cobra.
Are they loud ? Yes. Are they hot as hell and a danger without heat shields ? Yes
My car isn't at the running stage yet but I understand the new MK5 pipes are a little quieter than the old ones.
I'll wear my ear plugs or noise canceling air pods.
My hearing has been damaged I'm sure from kart racing, being around my dad's sprint cars and racing motorcycles.

I will say that AAron's pipes that he built are the coolest thing I've seen, if I was talented as a fabricator as he is I might try that one myself.

Not a look I would want, but to each his own.

A larger concern would be how much exhaust you'd be getting in the car and breathing.

I ran some chambered race mufflers during testing that had a 3" inlet and outlet that were offset on both ends.

    https://youtu.be/PCngiKoopkA

They were Flow-Master 3" single chambers, but I don't see them online you might be able to find something similar to quiet things down.

I was at a vintage race and there was a real one with pipes like this. OMG it was loud.

The owner brought his private 18 wheeler hauler. 4 289s, a 427 comp, GT350, and a Terlingua Mustang. And paid hot shoes for all but the 427 which he drove. You know, just a little weekend fun. 2 of the 289s took each other out with some heavy body damage.

Exhaust outlet like a Pro-mod? Just one large hole in the fender..?

Several of the original Shelby Cobra Snakes had short exhausts, basically just a header..

Are you looking more for a 289 FIA style undercar exhaust with turn outs just in front of the rear wheels?

If you're going to run the exhaust out the side like a pro mod you absolutely must add twin turbos to justify the look....

And a cat... Catalytic converters do a lot of muffling.

I had forgotten about this car but I'm guessing this is something like you are talking about.
While it does look cool I can't imagine driving it around or the reaction from your neighbors and your local police.

Nice car, I love the no quickjacks.

Open zoomies, open car, and a sound system. Perfect.

    Stupid fast too it appears.
It reminds me of my KTM Supeduke with the carbon fiber straight through mufflers on it.
I started it with no db killers in it and it set off my neighbors car alarm immediately when I started it.
I put the db killers in it but it was still pretty loud, sounded glorious on the racetrack though.
Corner workers told me it was the best sounding bike on track.

Hot Rod Brothers has a car with straight-pipe zoomies. I've driven with that car and in spite of over 900hp, it's relatively quiet at cruise. Not so much when you mash the pedal though!
