I would love to see someone 3D print the hard top from 427 here in the US. The US versions are just weird looking while the 427 UK top looks amazing.
Resurrecting this since I think 3d printed parts for the car is a great way to really customize things, and frankly, for pure convenience. As we speak, I'm printing a TPU gasket to go between the air cleaner and the top of the carb - since my old paper one decided to call it quits - it's faster than ordering something from amazon

Plans are to re-train my cad skills and designing a good center console. Let's keep the uploads going on Thingyverse.
Check my recent build thread post #241.... I used my printer to get the parts dialed in and sent them off to be DMLS in 316 stainless. I just got them back yesterday and they are really nice. I had an extra hole in my removable dash plate and decided to put my employee challenge coin in it. But I needed a way it would be secure and trapped to the dash in a two piece sandwich style pod that would stay with the removable panel. I'm pretty pleased. I plan on powder coating the pod flat black to match the panel.
PS - my old roll of PETG was a little wet on this last iteration so plz excuse the stringiness

I just saw this post and wanted to add my two cents. I definitely will incorporate 3D printing into my build for some parts using something like nylon or another engineering filament. Right off the top of my head I need to break out Fusion and design some hard line mounts that'll go on the 4" main rails, plus a nice mount for my Holley inline fuel filter. I know as I move through my build I'll come up with other needs. I'm mostly focusing on functional pieces where I can't either find what I need or have a unique set of requirements. But the net-net is that with a custom build such as ours, there are lots of opportunities to incorporate 3D printed components. And for structural and/or decorative items, there luckily are job shops online for metal printing (as M22_COBRA is doing). It's a great time to be able to do manufacturing like this in our own basements

I've printed several items for my build, including defroster vents, footbox vent louvers, a brake pedal return spring (bandaid fix), and multiple jigs during the build. I'm planning to design a round Cobra logo light box just to see what it looks like mounted in the radiator opening or rear cockpit wall. Most likely it won't fit very well with my build but it's free and cheap to try it out. I could also mount it inside of the glove box or trunk and have it illuminate when you open it up. I was thinking along the lines of a lot of the modern day high-end cars you see on the road which have illuminated logos (Cadillac, Mercedes, etc). I'm sure a lot of the purists here would balk at the idea but my build isn't traditional at all. If it doesn't work I'm sure it'll look cool on my desk![]()

[QUOTE=M22_COBRA;602147]I had a friend give me one when they first came out, the big clunky one. Loved it from day one. The next time I went down to the home office in Sydney I took it with me and showed it to all of the engineers there who promptly turned their nose up at it. The next time I went I noticed about half of the designers were using them. Now they all have them. Now I've got the small laptop version and I never leave home without it.

Mike, those badges look great. I was actually trying to figure out a way to get a custom badge made but the cost was pretty outrageous through "billetbadges.com". I have to think modeling my own and having it printed (in aluminum preferably but even just in plastic) would be much more efficient.
Do you know if there are any services that do custom 3D printing jobs (in aluminum or other materials) that I could reach out to to get something like this made?

Mike I used the same service! It was really reasonable.
Very cool stuff. How did you do the resin/black inlay of the horn button? I may mock one up for my car.

Appreciate the recommendation. Downloaded Fusion 360, modeled a few custom badges, sent them off on Craftcloud3d, and am now awaiting my samples made in plastic. Pumped.
I all goes to plan I'll have 'em made in stainless and see if I can finish everything out with enamel paint. should be interesting.
I was blown away by how many material options there were. Wow.

You can print up to PA6-CF,PC. ie anything up to 300C here is a chart of what they support out of the box:K2 plus Filament Parameter.pdf
You guys might appreciate this. I'm working on a Cobra logo lightbox. I was toying with mounting it on the rear cockpit wall (flush) or maybe the glove box. I do like how a lot of modern EVs have illuminated logos on the front of the car...don't think that would really fit well w/ a 60's racecar but who knows. Right now I'm just playing around with ideas. Either way, it should be easy enough to mount 12V LED strips and tie them to the parking light circuit. I might make a FFR one also. Worst case it ends up on my desk

I'll pile on. I was going to post this in my build thread once I got there, but I'll give a sneak peak.
I have a 1968 preproduction air cleaner that grandad got from Ford to weld the dual threaded rods on the lower. Family business supports service parts, prototype pilot build modifications, and low volume production items for the big three. I think this is for a 68 GT350 because the bottom is a four barrel hole w/ dual stud straddling the 4 barrel, but the top is for a 65-66 GT500KR with dual studs and it has the casting mark at the lettering. ??
Its been sitting in his garage for the past 60+ years. Im putting it on top of the Coyote to dress it up. I printed the "filter" in clear transparent polycarbonate. Then I will put LED's in a slot behind the show surface of the filter. The goal is for it to be under hood mood lighting.

I have the 35 truck with no fenders. I love the look of the "Indy/F1" style upper and lower A arms. What about printing brake ducts that can bolt to the back of the front spindle?
Could work for any FFR with the current front spindles, but would be very visible on 35 Truck, and 33 hot Rod. I would be all in on a set of these.

Today I printed up a small bracket for a trickle charger port for my battery. Print took about 15 minutes to design, 45 minutes to print, and 5 minutes to install. Easy peasy. Details on my BUILD THREAD, including more pics and links to the parts used and 3D file for the bracket (in case anyone wants to replicate in the future).

Nice thats the perfect use case for 3d printing. Faster than going out to a store if they even have a bracket like that .
I printed some belt loops to help keep the extra lengths of the harness neat. I got Gemini to design it and modified to what i need. I figured that would jump start my CAD relearning...

Yup, I'll see if I have the window still open, I was quite impressed at the ease of which a model, albeit simple, could be generated. I essentially recreated the process here. It even details instructions on how to get a free CAD software that will be able to "read" its output to create a 3d model and subsequently output to a stl file. The best part is the OPENSCAD code it generates has parameters that you can vary to adjust your model, well, parameters, like loop thickness, height, width etc.

Thanks for letting me know - retried and looks like it works now
Mike,
Quick question on the 3D printing front. I am in the process of modeling a badge for my build and am now ready to have it made in Aluminum similiar to the badges you had prepared above. I've already found even when having samples of the badge made in plastic that different producers can vary a good deal in quality. Do you recall what company on CraftCloud you had your aluminum items made? I was thinking of using the same one since the quality of your parts looks real good.
Thanks!
-Brew
