    Question Best Insurance?

    Hi again,
    Well I used Hagerty, but I was wondering what you guys use and which you think is the best for all coverages and "unlimited" miles.

    I went with Grundy. They are not the cheapest but they have fewer restrictions than Hagerty. Last thing I want is a denied claim because I broke a restriction. I also went with "Agreed Value".

    Just went through this and also wound up going with Grundy. Originally got a quote from Midwest and was going to use them based upon the positive feedback on the forums but decided to also check with my regular insurance agent. She was able to set me up with a policy through Grundy for the same agreed value as Midwest and higher liability limits for about $200 less per year. So it definitely pays to shop around.

    I'm in MA so many of the usual providers don't write policies here.

    Just received a quote from Robbin Terry (Midwest Classic Insurance 800-348-3869) for about 1/3 off of what I was paying. New company - American Modern Property and Casualty.

    American National Property And Casualty (ANPAC). Their CHROME collector car product is every bit what Hagerty & Grundy offer without the restrictions and at a very affordable rate.

    Edit: ANPAC CHROME does have a 10,000 mile/year limitation, so not completely restriction-free.

    I use Hagerty. Not only are there no restrictions but they actually encourage me to drive. It was a bit of a hassle when I first got the policy back in 2017. I had to get the car appraised and fill out an affidavit with my history driving high powered cars. My old Mk1 was originally appraised at $41,000. After I added my premium soft top, I increased my coverage to $45,000 no questions asked. If I recall I am paying about $675 a year which includes their drivers club.

    Im with Hagerty too but I don't like the restriction that my 21year old son can't drive the car with me. A big part of building this car was to continue spending time with him. I'll call them eventually to see how this "restriction" can be removed.

    My first FFR was insured with Progressive as it was a daily driver, I drove it everywhere. To work, grocery, the movie theater, heck I even drove it to WalMart.(It was totaled on the way home from work) My second FFR was initially insured through Robin at Midwest but they sent me a letter that they no longer insure in Florida and sent me to Hagarty. I’m not sure how good they will be since even though my FFR is titled, registered, and insured, it is currently not completed. (Close but not quite)

    I have been w/ Robbin at Midwest for many years. Recently the company who actually provided the insurance quit doing it and Robbin is now working w/ Hagerty. Previously he had a couple of options and I am not sure if that is still the case. The good thing is that Robbin understands special interest cars which is way different than most agents.

    Every company I've seen willing to cover these cars insists on 10 years minimum driving experience.

    Same boat here.

    Robbin also has American Modern available in some states (and maybe additional options as well).


    +1 for Robbin - very helpful and knowledgeable - highest recommendation from me.

    That's fine if the driver is in there alone. But if the driver is sitting next to an experienced driver then a separate provision should be able to be made for that.

    I don't know what ANPAC's policy is on this. I can dig through my policy to see what it says.

    Edit: Looks like drivers just need to have been licensed for at least five years, so most 21-year-old drivers could qualify.

    American collectors through USAA with a agreed upon policy. Great rate and never had a issue with them over the years.
    Mk4, Moser M88 rear end, Eaton truetrak, Craft Racing 461 Windsor, MMR pro trans, Glenn’s 1,000 hp cobra fuel system and lots of other parts.

    I have insurance with USAA. They suggested American Collectors to me, too. AC ended up being about the same price after factoring in the fact that I also carry an Umbrella liability policy. By the time I considered USAA’s annual reimbursements of premium there was probably no difference. USAA have been so good to me for 50+ years that it was a no brained to stay.

    Looks like I'm shopping. Hagerty's will not cover my car as a daily driver. They said I could drive to work "once in a while" and have a 5k mile limit per year. My rebuild should be finished Tuesday next week and I plan to drive this car as long as it is not raining. My normal insurance is USAA and they could not give me an umbrella policy last year because I was with Hagerty for some reason. So maybe this was in the cards all along. BTW- I tried to call Terry at the number above. I got an automated message trying to sell me a life alert to go around my neck. I'm 50 but I don't think (I hope not) I will need this yet.

    I had USAA insurance for over 25 years. Based on a recommendation from Dave (Papa), I switched to American National General. I was paying about $1100 every 6 months for my two cars with USAA. When it was time to add the Cobra, I shopped around and, for me, ANG was by far the best option. I switched my homeowners over from USAA to ANG which was the same price, and they now cover all three of my cars for $1150 for the same coverage and deductibles. USAA wanted me to go to a third party that they recommend for over $1000 for every 6 months just for the Cobra! USAA is fantastic for a lot of things, but not for unusual cars or motorcycles.

    ANG does not write liability policies for North Carolina. I was going to have to have liability through USAA and a seperate policy through ANG. Grundy gave me a quote that is half of what I'm paying Hagerty but I'm skeptical. I want to see the fine print and currently waiting for it. Conveniently, it will be a couple more days until my rebuild is finished.

    I wholeheartedly recommend Robin at Midwest as well. He insured me through the build process as a kit as well as when I first got it on the road. Unfortunately, the underwriter of my policy decided to stop offering in Texas, and Hagerty was offering to pick up. Robin also got me a quote from a different company that was a good quote.

    However, since I was going to have to start the application over again anyway, I checked with my local agent who happens to be a very good friend of mine and insures my other vehicles and fifth wheel, and he was able to get me an agreed-upon value policy from Grundy that fit the bill nicely and was better priced than Hagerty's offer (as well as a tad cheaper than Robin's other offer).

    These insurance threads are interesting anecdotal information but that's all they are. There can be no one "right" insurance carrier for everyone. Different states, different coverages, different driving records and different level of experience all influence how you'll be quoted.

    Shop. Compare coverages for your needs. Get the best coverage for YOU. Buy. Simple as that.

    Yep, USAA is one of the best for sure, but after some comparisons with American Insurance agency - I've got the second one. It turns out that they not just provide insurance for citizens, but also inform us about every type of insurance, and how we should react on different circumstances.

    I too have Hagerty and had to go through the letter writing ordeal on experience driving speedmobiles. It was a hassel and I'm not sure any driver other than me is covered in it. Doesn't matter since no one else drives it,
