Byrdman and Son Build Complete
Cobra Front.jpgCobra Z&T.jpgCobra Interior.jpgCobra Z&T 2.jpgCobra Engine.jpg
Well it's taken 5 years, and I am sure we cannot call it done. Already there are more things I am thinking about doing / upgrading, but we are calling the build complete! What a journey and a learning experience! Some info about our build:
MKIV Kit 2104. Powdercoated frame. Blueprint 347 naturally aspirated engine. Lentech Ford Automatic overdrive transmission. Paint by Norris Paint and Body, Benson NC.
Zach and I could not have done it without help we received from my brother Tracy. Tracy is basically an electrical engineer, and he did all of the wiring for us, and many other things. Bill, a very good friend and mechanic, helped us install the rear end and the motor and transmission. Bill was also a basically a by phone lifeline concerning several mechanical matters. This would not have been possible without Bill's help. A good friend of mine, Harry helped us with body preparation. Thanks to James Norris, over at Norris Paint and Body in Benson for doing an amazing job on the paint. Would also like to thank Roger at Final Touch powder coating in Spring Lake NC for quick turnarounds and a good price for powder coating a lot of aluminum panels and metal parts.
I would also like to thank Sally at Factory Five for always being so friendly over the telephone, and Tony, Dan and all of the MKIV techs I talked to by phone over the years.
Couple thoughts. It's funny how when we started we treated the frame and kit tenderly, but by the end we were not hesitating to hammer, cut, bend -whatever it took. I also think about the numerous times we had to walk away thinking what we were trying to do is impossible only to sleep on it, or go back later and things always seemed to work out.
To those who are building God Bless and good luck. For those who are thinking - YOLO!!
