R8 engine and drivetrain?

has anyone looked into an AWD GTM? using an audi 4.2L FSI V8 along with the 6 speed shouldn require too much modification and it should raise the overall performance capabilities. still trying to find out if its even possible as i have yet to even see the frame but considering the R8 has a high-revving V8 along with a style of direct injection it should react amazingly to forced induction. also the R8 weighs in at 3500, GTM at 2400..... id say that should be a fairly significant gain assuming sound deadner and full interior is used. any opinoins would be greatly appreciated

Plenty have dreamed about it, "looked into" it - no. It is a pipe dream. It will require a lot of modification and fabrication work. The price of the engine and drive line out of the R8 will be a LOT of money. You need all of the electrical to go with it too...if you want it to run. GTM with AWD will not weigh in at 2400 lbs, you are going to add significant weight - hundreds of pounds. It won't likely be done because it would be cheaper to buy an R8...but logic doesn't always stop everyone.

Way too mUch work, easier to buy a body and start with your own frame and go from there.

thats what i needed to know, i knew it would add weight as far as the extra axle and driveline go. i figured stripping the interior of the GTM and cutting everything not needed out of it would sae enough wieght to counteract it. at least im not the only one who thought about going this route tho, maybe its time for an AWD GTM?

When switching to AWD from rear drive do you need to revise the front suspension pickup points?

depends on how the original suspension for the AWD system works but most likely. its always better to work with tried and true than to throw pieces together and hope

Actually the same is entirely true with the GTM. People worry about increasing the angle that the axles are at, but having the axles at an angle actually allows the driveline to live longer. This is because the balls in the CVs work a much larger surface area if they are working with axles that are at an angle as opposed to straight out. Max angle for a large body 930 series CV is roughly 22 degrees, so unless you are building a "sand GTM"(ala flotowngtm ), you will not get the CVs to their critical angle in a GTM.

no doubt thier fine, for daily driving or a little track day. however im planning on throwing the car around corners at 160 or so and having some pull to keep the front where it needs to be would keep me from throwing wieghts in it to keep the tires planted. theres a reason most superars are AWD, the veyron couldn hit a 2.5 sec. 0-60 times by being RWD
