I may be looking too close and too careful!
I am looking to press in new wheel studs onto the rear hubs of my 33 hotrod irs suspension configuration. I noticed the original studs are notched on the inside to clear center of hub. New studs are not notched and look like thy may hit the rubber gasket protruding from the hub. Any modifications required or when pressed in, do they clear everything?

Best to grind a flat on the edge to prevent interfering with that rubber piece. I've done it using my 8" Delta disk sander. Other tools are possible. Doesn't take a lot. Have done it on my IRS builds, plus a few weeks ago helping another builder.
I did the same as Paul, ground a flat into one side just like the originals. I find that a 40 grit flap disk makes short work of things like this

My bench top grinder worked as well.
I started to install the studs and was not happy with the washer approach. Got a Lyle stud installer and seems much better. It took a lot of force and two of the studs threads aren’t right. Tuff to get nuts on stud after installation. Stopped after I ran into this problem. Given they are 1/2 20 studs…Quote:
