When I pulled the engine and heads off It was amazing this thing ran at all. Now I know why I wasnt getting the performance I should have.
After 20 cans of brake cleaner and wd40 I was able to clean up the block easily along with the pistons. Engine seems to still be fresh enough to proceed with the rebuild.
Ill be getting rid of the iron heads and putting the beautiful edelbrock heads and matching cam that Mike Forte sold me! Thanks Mike!

One thing I really found good for cleaning pistons, connecting rods, value springs, valves, retailers, etc is a carb cleaner. I bought a gallon container and put the whole piston in with connecting rod. Making sure it didn't reach the bottom of the can. Leave it over night and in the morning it was clean as a whistle. Even the paint marks were still there.

Hey Ron nice info, I used a ton of brake cleaner but I never got to totally soak the pistons and rods.
