Had thought about putting in some type of courtesy light under the dash but didn't want to drill into the under dash panel (Replicaparts) and since they will only get used a couple times a year, also didn't want to spend too much money. While I was in the local NAPA store yesterday, I found these license plate lights and thought I would see if they would work. Made up a mount out of some scrap 18 gauge sheet metal and attached to the support tubes on each side of the dash. I connected both lights to the courtesy light feed wire on the Ron Francis harness and installed a simple toggle switch under the dash. They put out a good bit of light which shines down on the footwells. Since I was going for function and not looks, I mounted them up near the top of the dash where they are not visible at all. I think I have about $10 and an hour of time in the whole system.

I used the same on Steve's Mk4 but mounted them above the footboxes on the 2X2 that runs side to side and wired them to work with the courtesy light functiion of the headlight switch. You're exactly right; they are inexpensive and function well! BTW, it's kinda' nice to have one in the trunk also.

Thanks Carl........much appreciated.
Good idea Jeff.............hadn't thought about the trunk. Would be just as easy to install.

Thx Ron
I installed 3 courtesy lights - LED strips from FFR. Installed the self adhesive strips along the bottom of the dash 2x2 in each foot box and under the 1x1 trunk lid mount cross member support.
Courtesy lights are nice to have and easy to install and cast a slight bluish tint (soft light) - all wired to one toggle

I used the same lights. Mounted on the outboard square tube.

The courtesy lights can be wired to panel dim on the headlight switch (rotate switch to max and courtesy lights come on) just like a "normal" car.

Thanks Mark....great idea.
I noticed that the lights were dim and didn't seem to put out as much light as I had expected. I then realized I had wired them in series which reduced the voltage to the lights. A quick rewire to parallel and both now shine bright. A "duh" moment.
