101981019710196Went on a run today with a local group (http://www.socalsaac.org) and came upon a curve marked "15-MPH." The turn is just over the crest of a rise, drops and is off-camber. Turns out the locals also toss sand/gravel on the road for fun. Well, I was doing about 25 and lifted off the gas, the road went right HARD and dropped away. The car went straight and I applied literately just a little brake. Would have been fine if the sand wasn't there. One of the guys following me told me that I was "almost stopped" when the car went off the road. Once I realized that I wasn't going to stop, I just kept the car straight and brought it to a stop. Everything was okay with the car, drove it through the weeds to a dirt road and then back to the pavement. Only damage was a broken ground wire to the manual fan switch and that's been repaired. Lots of dust on the car but nothing else wrong.

My pride took a hit but I learned a valuable lesson at a very cheap price. and, when San Diego County Roads signs a curve at 15-mph....believe them!!

Here are some shots (taken after I dusted off the car) from the Mt. Palomar Observatory.

Glad to hear that you and the car are OK, no mention of your co-pilot - did she like the ride?

Here, I'll put her on...."I thought to myself 'hope we don't flip over' and then as I watched Ray steer the car through the slide, I just had to tell him 'Good job! You handled that just right.' But we were too hot in the curve and that left front brake needs some attention!"

Yep, I need to work on that brake.

Glad you and the car are O.K. I've had mine off in the dirt once and it happened QUICK. Same thing No Damage except for my pride. Good lesson though.
Cheers,
John
