I've had Walbro fuel pumps in the past, and they've generally worked well, but the one I have now is quite noisy. Since this is the first Walbro 255 I've had, I'm wondering if that particular pump is known to be noisy, or maybe it's characteristic of Walbros now?

I have the same pump, and it's loud, and about the same noise level as the smaller Walbro I had on my MkIII. I don't know where you are in your build, but I'm almost at go-cart stage...I have no trunk aluminum permanently installed, no sound mat, no carpet, and no body on the car, so I can really hear the pump. Once the car is completed, it's much less noticeable, but you can definitely hear it when you turn the key on but engine off. With engine running, it's not really noticeable. An empty gas tank makes it worse, and I try not to cycle mine dry too much.

Thanks Greg, that's helpful to know. At least I know it's not a problem with the pump and I can put "install quieter pump" on my "things I may do later" list.

Not sure you'll find a quieter pump, and the in-tank pumps are generally quieter than external pumps. My guess is you won't even hear it when you fire up the car, or you'll forget about when you get it on the road.

Oh, you're right -- the only time I really hear it is when I turn the key. When she's running, I can only hear it if I'm standing at the back of the car. When I'm driving... forget about it... there's only one noise I hear :)

I'm at the point in my build where I'm trying to get one step ahead of any fuel pump noise.

I made this "pallet" out of a piece of aluminum and two layers of scrap rubber sheet that I had kicking around.

Between that and the foam wrap around the pump it seems to be quiet enough. Little or no vibration is making its way to the frame.

I feel that by the time I get damping mat on the aluminum panel and the waterfall the noise will be barely noticeable.
