Outsourcing the carpet install

Installing the carpet is probably the phase I've looked forward to the least. Also, I think I'd like to go with a loop carpet instead of the FFR carpet. I'm thinking of having a shop do the install.

To those who outsourced your install, what was your experience like? Anything you'd do differently? I'd also be interested to know what you paid (PM me if you're willing to share and don't want to post here).

I was also dreading mine, and planned to outsource it. I had a weekend of unusual motivation to do it, so I did it. I used a brush-on adhesive, and it went fast and easy. I had very little trimming to do, and it turned out great.

I had German wool square-weave carpet professionally installed by an upholstery shop on my roadster build. All edges were leather bound, and they made custom matched floor mats. They also upholstered my seats, and the backs of the seats match the carpets.

It's not the difficulty -- it's just a lack of interest, and I know a pro would do a better job. But the cost may motivate me to think otherwise.

It's not unlike home remodeling for me. I like to do the framing, plumbing, electrical, and finish carpentry, but zero interest in drywall, tile, and paint.

I would agree that gluing in the FFR-provided pieces is not that difficult a job. In my case, I wanted something that was substantially different than that, and which I didn't have the skills or tools to do, so I had it done professionally.

Similar to where my mind is. If I use the FFR carpet, I'll just do it myself. But I'm thinking about something different... either a loop pile or german square weave like yours. Maybe different than black, like a dark red or maroon, with some bound edges.

I too was a bit worried about installing the F5 supplied 'carpet' on the alum skins having never done that sort of thing but it worked out ok, following the Weldwood glue instructions. I mitigated the overall effort somewhat by substituting the carpet with some Joann's crok vinyl on the tunnel and doors. Thought I was buying a snakeskin pattern, but what the heck. Looks ok.

If one were going to buy different carpet and install themselves, what's a good estimate for the sq/ft needed?
