Hi all,

This is my second factory five. I have a Daytona coupe as my other and am now starting a cobra. I am leaving the body on it and going to get the wheels on it so I can roll it onto my lift for storage while I tackle other projects.

Hit a bit of a snag with the rear brakes. This is a 2004 mustang axle that I put in shorter moser fox body length axles. The last one I built had a 87 fox body rear end…fit with some minimal shimming.

As I am mocking this one up the caliper seems to need a ton of shimming. I am probably going to need 8 washers to get things to center up. Each side seems about the same. I was planning on doing this aggressive shimming an buying longer caliper bracket mounting bolts to accommodate this. Anyone seen this before? I can make it work, but perhaps I am missing something more simple and elegant. Check it out and let me know your thoughts. I am thinking this is a result of the axle swap.

Fbird, the bracket set I received from Richard Oben at North Race car included a laser cut spacer with the correct holes and configuration to match the bracket. You may be missing that spacer? You could probably substitute with washers or cut some stand offs to accomplish? But I think best solution is to source the correct spacers for the application.
Best regards, Flip

Second look it also appears you are missing the caliper bracket? You can check out online videos for proper installation.

The 99-04 8.8 housings are .750 wider than the Fox and 94-98 SN95 8.8 housings. It appears this is the issue...

I would agree. Bet if you put the 04 axles back in the brakes would line up just fine.

If you are just rolling it on the lift for storage, skip the calipers for now. When you get back to it, fixing the problem will be easy on the lift. My .02

Thanks all. I am going to fab up a threaded spacer. It is off exactly 3/4 of an inch. Looks like the factory five 11.5 brake kit will work perfectly if I do that. I don’t want to put the old axles in because that will push out the width. Plus my new ones are 31 spline mosers. Figured I would check before going down this path.
Good day!
