I built a Classic Roadsters Cobra 30 years ago and subsequently sold it. Since then, I have been wanting to build another Cobra but kids and life were priorities so I had to wait until retirement, which came a couple months ago.
My complete kit was ordered in April and is scheduled to arrive in mid-January with the BPE 347 which is already sitting in my garage.
I have been reading the build threads on this forum for months and I find them to be very informative and the community is always eager to help another builder. Although I have built one of these, it was a long time ago and I still consider myself a novice, so I look forward to the advice and guidance of everyone on this forum. Hopefully, I can contribute along the way as well.
My plan is for this car to be just for fun and I do not have any aspirations of putting it on the track. I want to just cruise around town (DFW area) and get out onto some curvy Texas backroads (in the fall and spring of course)! I have two grown boys, one in college and the other is a welder and I look forward to spending some quality time with both of them on this build. My girlfriend has a young son that loves cars and I want to include him in this project as well. I've been talking about this project for a couple years and they are all excited that it is about to actually happen.
Here is a rundown on my build:
-Complete MKIV kit set up for small block Ford and 8.8 rear axle with 3-link suspension
-Powder coated frame - black
-Body cutouts
-Power steering
-Stainless headers
-Vintage GPS gauge set
-Vinyl seats
-Dual chrome roll bars
-17" Halibrand wheels
-Wind wings
-Wiper kit
-Vinyl dash with glovebox kit
As with most builds on this forum, I plan to order a bunch of upgrades from the various vendors such as Breeze, Russ Thompson, Gas-N, etc., not to mention multiple trips to the local Ace Hardware, Amazon and Lowes/Home Depot.
Like others, I will be asking a lot of questions and many may have already been addressed in earlier threads so I hope they don't come across as repetitive or dumb. I look forward to the advice of those that have experienced the joy and challenges that a project like this can bring. Your guidance is appreciated, so thanks in advance!
