This is on a 2012 MK4. Cover plate screws broken in latch. Have you ever tried to use an easy-out on #4 screws.......not a good outcome.
If you have one please respond.

Can you just tap it for a larger screw?

I could not get the broken off screw out of the latch assy. It would be better to replace it. Thanks for your response.

Jeff, thanks for the website. Great price! I'll reach out to them. Thanks again.

I have had to replace both latch assy's because of the lever, which is only crimped internally to the internal latch assy. became uncrimped. Of course, the new ones did the same thing after a period of time. After looking at the problem, a bolt nut and washer solved that issue. Then the #4 cover bolts would not stay tight, so medium locktite fixed that. I don't really care for that latch assy. and was wondering how hard it is to change over to the new style latch. Looking at the instructions from FFR it looks like more than an hour per door.

That screw shouldn’t be in with too much tension unless you cross threaded it. Have you tried a hot glue stick trick?
