Exhaust Flex Pipe Needed?

Hi all,

I welded up an exhaust for my 818, but I did not put a flex pipe in it. It is also not mounted to the frame - it is floating held up by the turbo.

I imagine this is not a great idea - I have no flex pipe in the headers either. I don't want to crack the new Tomei set, and I'd also prefer if the body doesn't get damaged from the engine/exhaust moving.

Any thoughts? Would no flex pipe lead to cracks and issues?

Make a bracket to support the exhaust attached to the transmission. The exhaust will then move with the engine and not be floating or fixed to the chassis. With about 3/8 inch clearance between my exhaust and the rear grill I have not had interference problems, but by replacing the motor and transmission mounts with group N or other stiffer mounts you can minimize the likelihood.

My exhaust goes straight out the back similar to your pics. It is only attached to the turbo. My problem is when you put in the FFR trunk panels the exhaust heat is too close to the trans. When driving in traffic on a hot day the clutch pedal gets soft and doesn't return all the way up. Going to have someone put some curves in the exhaust to get cat and muffler away from trans. Davis
