View Full Version : Build order - brakes before shocks?

Hi everyone - really appreciate all of the pro insights and tips that are shared here. I have my first question related to my MK4 build. Here's the deal: I'm trying to keep making progress in spite of a ton of missing parts. So my question is about build sequence: I've been working on the IRS, and today I'm assembling the Wilwood rear brakes. But I'm still waiting on the double-adjustable Koni shocks, AND the toe adjustment arms are lying on my workbench, waiting for rod ends before they can be attached to the spindles. Before I start threadlocking the brake bolts, is there any reason why I should wait and install the shocks and/or toe adjustments first? Anything else in this area I need to be careful NOT to do out of order (per the manual)?
Thanks!

I haven't personally tried to do it in the order you're suggesting, but the coil-overs are "service" items meaning you should be able to remove and replace them without having to disassemble brakes and suspension, so I don't see a reason why you couldn't put them in after you've assembled the suspension and brakes.

I am not sure I understand your question because the pic shows the caliper already installed. BTW I see no reason to use thread locker on the brake bolts. Torque them properly and be done.

I don't believe that one will interfere with the installation or removal of the other. Same for the toe arms and adjusters. All are independent of the other.

Just torque the bolts up, dont use threadlocker you dont need it. If you need to take the brakes off for something in the future just go ahead and do it.
BTW I dont see any reason not to do it in that order other than that the spindle will be a lot heavier to lift up when youre trying to get the coilover on.

Thanks for the responses! Skipping the threadlocker and full speed ahead. Just saw that a shipment is on the way from FF - hope it's a big one.
