Jeff Kleiner has done it again as he sent me these pictures on Christmas morning. What a great gift.
I don’t about you but I’ve had a bit of anxiety about my color choice over the years. My car is the first Mk IV to leave FFR back in March 2010 and all the time while building I’ve gone from one color to another. At the beginning it was Silver, then British Racing Green, then a Red, then for several years it was Guardsmen Blue. More recently I saw a car built by Ron Everett on the FFR site that was painted a Mazda Red with Silver stripes. It has been my computers back ground for about three years now. And then I saw Dave Smith’s Red car, the prototype for the Mk IV and I liked it too. And then I saw Carl Emery’s car which was painted by Jeff and fell in love with it. So, while Jeff was working on my car, he sent me some red and silver samples, one of which was Carl’s Red. All this time, I’ve been taking pictures of Red cars and thinking and thinking about my color combinations. While I liked Carl’s I started to evolve to a lighter Red. I went from Carl’s, a Porsche Carmine Red to a Nissan Plasma Red to finally this BMW/Mini Chili Red with Audi Florett Silver. The final evolution came down to the Chili Red when I did some work on a friends ’59 MGA which was painted Chili Red. I had a chance to hold all the samples up against the Chili Red so that’s essentially how it happened. My daily driver is an Audi Q7 painted that Florett Silver.
