Really good decision by FFR for sound business reasons - they are stretched thin enough!

No issues??? No issues??....if there were no issues there would be a SEMA.

NFL stadiums are not a good issue analogy. Lately there have been a handful of headers from the balconies, 29 unintended pregnancies' at the tailgate party and 704 drunks soiling themselves in the last quarter. Covid? Count on it, yer cheese hat and face paint won't protect you.
Covid, not so sure.
Businesses are slowing down because of the supply chain. I've been waiting for a Holley EFI throttle body for about 8 months now. They keep moving out the date. I also hear the same for Edelbrock parts.
I just did a search for the Pro-Flo 4 EFI system and the only available product seems to be the Small Block Ford set up. All others are listed as not available.

And Dave Smith has said himself that the supply chain is not working well for them. So it is with the entire industry +.
So, maybe there will be a small SEMA because not much new stuff got developed last year and those that did develop new products can't get them produced with no sure guarantee to ship. Not worth the effort to attend.
Everyone continues to hurt because of the past shutdowns.

As a physician who has been neck deep in COVID since before everyone thought it was here, I totally agree with you. From what I am seeing the general population is over it and we are hurdling to herd immunity and COVID then becoming endemic in the population with it settling into the multiple coronaviruses that are already in circulation. Supply chain coming off the west coast from California is one of the big issues jamming up the supply chain.

Trade imbalance was a priority not long ago, and efforts to correct that raised prices and obstructed supply for businesses and consumers. Much of the enforcement is still in effect.
OTOH other industries have evaluated the benefits of National shows ROI and discontinued the practice.
I was with an Marine OEM in the eighties and nineties. The National Marine trade show was in Chicago at McCormick place. We sent hundreds of employees, it was informative and fun.
Display cost was huge, and the major companies realized sales were not boosted in comparison to their individual dealer shows. The National show was terminated but the International show in Miami went on. The difference was the non-American display benefits and boats in the water for evaluation. The Miami show is for dealers and other businesses, and consumers get one day to see displays.
Maybe the SEMA value to companies is being questioned. How many future sales can be attributed to the show, especially if a company can not deliver?

Jim,
I've attended the SEMA show with FFR in years past and was on the roster to do the same this year until Dave made the decision to pull the plug. Factory Five is not at the show for direct customer sales; only a small percentage of their purchasers are able to attend. A significant part of why Factory Five attends is for media exposure...during SEMA week Dave spends hours in front of cameras and those interviews and snippets with media that wind up in front of potential customers via the various broadcast/print/social media outlets are where sales are generated. Another aspect of the show is meeting with current and future partners &/or suppliers such as Koni, etc. When some of those backed out it helped make the decision easier and when SEMA informed exhibitors that if they decided to forego this year they would not lose their seniority for 2022 booth prioritization (i.e. in the past skipping a year meant that you'd give up your space in the more desirable display area the following years) it pretty much sealed the deal.

Jeff,
Ahh, schmoozing and getting schmoozed. Been there. IMHO GE Capital at Indy for the recreational industry show was the best at that.
I have also done the December Columbus race industry show with QA1 where a fuel dragster did a burnout on the way to the transporter.
Harley does Sturgis and rallies with a demo fleet. Buell did races with their demo fleet, both attended National shows.
Still when times are hard and the future unclear, companies adjust.
I get the media exposure however the only FFR promotion I have ever seen is with Ford at the EAA. Back again this year after missing 2020. I must not travel with the right crowd.
As you know FFR does not show 818s or GTMs at the Ford shows.

Yep, at Oshkosh the hemi powered Speedstar had to stay in the transporter, but we got it out at the Street Rod Nationals the following week. As SEMA 2018 four of us built a Coupe in the Ford Out Front arena in 3 days but the GTMs, 818s and LS powered hot rods had to stay with the big rig on the other side of the drift ring. Ford has that kind of hor$epower ;)

Wow Jeff! Thanks for the peak behind the curtain a little at SEMA showing the influence some companies have :)

During my days as a paint protection film (clear bras) manufacturer, a film company (Venture Films) introduced their auto product at SEMA. While they did well with direct to business their net sales from SEMA that first year was exactly zero. While I love going to SEMA, I've also always felt it had little potential to produce sales in a business to business environment. Maybe different for all the consumers who find their way in.
