I wanted to raise my ride height, so I rotated the spring seat up the sleeve. Took some effort, but I was able to spin the spring seat to make the adjustment. I went too high so now I want to lower, but now the spring seat won't rotate. What happened? Do I need a spring compressor tool to relieve the pressure on the rotating spring seat? What's the trick?

Hey Dave, Do you have the weight off of the suspension? Even just lift it until the spring is unloaded and the adjustment should be much easier.

Weight off. Wheel off.

Dave,
I suspect that you tighten the spring while it was at full extension.
To get the pressure off the adjusting ring. Here are a couple of comments and questions.
1. Is it possible you overtightened the set screws in the ring and damaged thr threads on the sleve?
2. With the shock assembly removed, can you get a spring compressor on the spring to take the pressure off the ring?
3. With a spring compressor on, can you remove the top hat?

I wanted to raise my car but wanted to keep shock travel in the middle of travel. So I extended the top mount.

The spring seat is stuck at 5 threads from the top.
1. I guess it's possible I overtightened the set screw, but I don't recall torqueing on it very hard when I raised the spring seat knowing it's just a set screw carrying no loads. Not hard enough to do damage that would damage the threads and jam up the whole thing.
2 & 3. Guess I need to acquire a spring compressor. Any recommendations? Looks like there are several on Amazon.

You would need a spring compressor that fits a small diameter spring. Maybe this one.

After about an hour of soaking with penetrating oil, it freed up. Seems like an hour of penetrating oil before any adjustment might not be a bad idea.
