Hey!

Would you change my address to: 9618 Wildwood Ridge, San Antonio, TX 78250 for #490 (Gen 1).
And I'm at about 90% completion. Just trying to get a new headlight so I can start the title dance at DPS!

Thanks!

Nice - I've moved you Mike. Good luck :D

How do I access the map? The link at the beginning of this thread doesn't work for me.

Thanks. Bill #420

Dang, it looks like Google lost our map. That link is broken for me too, and I had admin access. I'll see if I can find out what's happened.

An update: Yep, the map is gone. I spoke to Geoff (the original creator) and he can't see it either. No-one knows why ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So our only option is to recreate from scratch using this thread, which will take some time and I'm not sure it's worth it. I loved having it and updating it but we only had ~dozen updates in the last year.. and we have no idea how many people ever looked?

I'm guessing we should unpin this?

I believe I remember something about Google discontinuing this service. We used it on our trade association and lost our map a while ago. Scott

I'm sad to see our map is gone, too. I was just checking and was going to change my mileage to 12,500 since 2009. I've not driven it as much in recent years but will be adding 2400 miles come June on the Hot Rod Power Tour (middle South route).
It's hard to imagine there are 1100+ kits out there when mine is #007!
Keep working and get them On The Road!

My understanding is that Google Maps disabled this feature several years ago. (It was a website I visited 4-5 times a year.) I don't know enough about the current version of Maps to say if a builder map is feasible these days. If it is, please add HR #894 as "in progress" (perpetually, it seems) in Simi Valley, CA.

Cheers! Keith

I have it on my list to revisit the current Maps and see if this is possible again. It was certainly useful.

The biggest requirement is that we keep the data outside Google Maps, probably in a Google sheet. Google Maps allows us to import from there, and keeping it in a sheet means that we don't mind (as much) if it disappears again. But the CSV/WTK format isn't as nice as I'd like - I was hoping it could contain city/state rather than lat/lon. Anyway, I'm working on it.

Thanks! I agree that it was useful, and would be nice to have again.

How are we coming with this? It would be great to see where everyone is

I haven't found a way yet to do what we need. At least for free. But I haven't spent more than a few hours looking - if you/anyone can find a way to import a CSV of city/state into google maps I'd love to use it. Or an API to convert city/state data into lat/lon (which I can import).

Too bad it's not as simple as creating a folder for a google earth KMZ file and dropping a pin on location with the users name.

If you know how to set it up, go for it! Having dropped pins on the old map manually for a few years I hoped that we could allow folks to do that themselves, and have the data backed up.

Ok, folks, let's try something new. I've created a Google map and given everyone permission to add/edit themselves. We're all friends here, right?

Obviously, this is not without risk, so you're all on your honor to treat this with respect. I'll be backing up the data regularly, but I still have enough faith in humanity that everyone will do the right thing!

Here's the map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1LR9Qe2pjUnWaCXISTe1QI1M2B65F14k&usp=sharing

And here are some instructions: https://scribehow.com/shared/Add_your_location_to_Factory_Five_Map__HXuULahLSmC NnHA3QMTlTw

Go for it! Let's see how well this works :D

Only 3 of us have done this so far?

progmgr1

It seems that there aren't many active Hot Rod / HR Truck builders these days, and most Forum members who have completed their builds are no longer active on the Forum. That means those members likely aren't aware of the resurrected map, and they also don't often notice if someone sends them a PM.

Are there any hidden files in the Forum database containing contact info, e.g. an email address? If so, then could an Admin send out a mass email asking for participation in the map project? Also, could we solicit FFR's help and maybe insert a mention of the map into the next "Ask Dave Anything" video and/or Dave's periodic newsletter?

Just tossing out a few ideas here. I always thought the map was a useful feature and would like to see it succeed.

The other option is for some/all of us (any volunteers) to start at the beginning of this thread and start entering them. That’s what I did for a few years when it was popular. All the data of who wants to be on the map is in this thread.
