I have the stock Factory Five shifter now. It does seem to work fairly well, but I'm just not crazy about the cables going forward and all around to eventually find the tranny. There are a number of options available to have a shifter with the cables coming out the rear of the shifter. So I assume that means shorter cables are used. Is it possible to shorten the existing ones? I know I can buy shorter ones, but can I rework the ones I have, as in, has anyone done it?

Art did it, but Art is a son of Zues. I'm not sure a mortal could pull it off.

Just as a point of reference, I had new cables with custom lengths made for my MR2 setup at $81 each from:
https://www.cccables.com/Cables/PushPull/4SeriesPP.aspx

Teleflex also has cables at pre-set lengths for ~$64-69

OK, interesting. So if I want shorter cables I can refer to Art's build and spend time cutting mine down and modifying them before buying new ones. :)

Zero Decibel sells a really nice shifter kit. http://zerodecibelmotorsports.com/products/

Where are you guys finding cables with bulkhead fittings on both ends? I'm not even able to find a Teleflex p/n specifying two bulkhead ends. Is the only option to go with a custom fab like here?

Any competent machinist should be able to make new end fittings, then have them swaged onto your shortened housings. As for the actual cable end, it may be possible to braze the original ends back onto your shortened cables. Might be cheaper to buy new, hourly rates n all.

I am planning to buy new cables but I can’t find ones with bulkhead fittings on both ends.

Bulkhead on both ends, 1/4-28 thread, 3" of travel, $45 ea.

Hourly rates for most machine shops are between $60 adn $100 for CNC's. A guy with a manual machine and a home shop would likely charge less, but at $45 ea...that's a pretty low bar.

Thanks Craig. I couldn't seem to find that on my own, and that price is great!
