I have a killer B pan Accusump, remote oil filter and cooler. I figure around 10 qts. With all plumbing I figure dip stick with engine off would be inaccurate for the level. I figured running would be better. Any suggestions as to the best to set oil level?

Nobody has an ideas?

Pull the coil wire and prime the system, then re-check. I don't think you are adding another 4Q of volume, and removing good oil in no fun.

Thanks, Let me clarify, I have a Killer B pan that is an extra 2 qts., I have a 2qt Accusump that is 4qts extra right there. I have the oil in the engine and I used a engine oil pressure rig to pre- presssurize the oil system. The engine running at idle the oil reads 1 qt low with 8 qts in it. I was wondering where on the dipstick the right spot is if the engine is running not off. If it is off I am afraid I could have too much drain back and it wont be accurate.

I'm not sure anyone can answer that. Engines are not designed to have the oil checked while running. Too much oil getting whipped around to be accurate. Drain back should not be an issue, unless you mean your accusump is leaking back into your oil system when the motor is off? I used to run a 3qt. accusump and never had an issue with the oil leaking past the the shut off valve.

Maybe I'm not understanding why you can't measure the oil when its off like normal?

The filter and the thermostat valve and oil cooler all sit above the oil pan so gravity would make it drain into the pan I think. The accusump holds 100psi for days so it doesn’t leak. The reason I listed everything is just to so capacity.

Sounds like you are where you need to be with the oil level. You don’t want too much level close to the crank. The windage topic was recently done on Engine Masters. They found their LS dyno engine made less hp when over filled due to windage, and continued to increase hp as they removed quart after quart-down to 4.5Q! As long as your pick up is drawing in un-frothy oil your system will do what it is designed to.

That is the goal just oil short of whipping it. Just was hoping someone knew a good method to get to that spot.
