818 Auto or Manual

Hello. New to the group here. Been to FFR twice and took factory tour twice. I’m planning on building an 818 in the next year or so so I’ve been watching auctions for a donor Impreza or WRX. I’m seeing in the case of Imprezas that a manual transmission is rare. If I have to settle on an auto. Would it be possible to get a manual trans with related components from salvage yard and use it, or would the PCM get confused since i assume it would be set up for an auto?

The PCM is specific to the trans type. So, get a manual donor if that is what you want.

It is possible to reflash an auto PCM/ECU to work with a manual transmission if you do a bit of research. I believe Bob-n-Cincy used a forester auto donor and reflashed the ECU to work with a manual trans.

Really? Thank you. That’s very generous but I’m way away from starting a build. I was just curious as to what my options would be when finding a donor car and weather or not I should pass on an available automatic
