Went to order some blast plates for the 5 speed and noticed they have a group buy on their website. Deadline is Tuesday, delivery in February. My guess is the new design is outsourced as opposed to the older welded style thus the delay in delivery. IMO the new one looks good and for us that matters because it can be seen. Anyway, for anyone with a 5 speed and not broke after Christmas, check it out.

ADMIN EDIT: Non-supporting vendor group buys not allowed...

My gearbox went on my 818 so I had All Pro Subaru repair the gearbox and put blast plates on. It was $300 more but I figured it was good insurance. Car is good now.

My issue with these kinds of parts is that there's never any analytical data that shows they do anything for the $$$ they cost. Is case flex really much of an issue in a lightweight car like the 818? There's just so many possible items that could lead to a failure. This said, they can't really hurt anything either.

Agreed! I’ve seen lots of ppl follow others down a rabbit hole on things like this. After 35 yrs experience as a machinist, I do not believe the source of breakage is due to case flex. More likely something inside the gearbox fails and finds its way between two gears and blammo! I stand by this.
