I was thinking or using this UE-TECH Pull Type Linear Motion 0.4KG-2.6KG Force 12MM Solenoid Electromagnet to open actuate the reverse lockout when I push a button on the dash. Any thoughts on that approach?

Thanks
Ed

Ed,
What Transmission are you using? The standard 818 5MT has a mechanical mechanism that doesn't allow you to go from 5th to reverse. I think this is sufficient.

Our ATV's have button or switches that must be pressed to enable reverse. I hate them because each vehicle is different.

6 speed, I have that little pivot that needs to move for reverse right? I haven't hooked up the tranny the cables I ordered were on 4 week backorder.

Most of the Subaru 6 speeds can be shifted into reverse without moving the lockout pivot. If you do not connect the pivot at all it goes into a safety unlocked position. This is so that if the cable breaks you can still shift into reverse.

So, if your not concerned about accidentally shifting into reverse, just leave the lockout pivot alone. This is much easier as you do not need to run a cable or activation mechanism. It is what I'm doing in my 818R.
