I think that you should change the front...... but of course I am a little bias.
It has crossed my mind as the passenger side hood does not align woth the cowl or fender / wheel arc.
We shall see!

Thanks for your interest. I'm currently designing circuit boards for the system which will need testing before anything gets sold. This
should have been ready for late Spring, however I've had family commitments which needed attention.
I am hoping to receive the circuit boards by mid September and have them tested by end of September.
Until then, you can get more info and video here:

If you have any questions send me a message or reply in LCD gauge thread.

A question for those using the C5 fuel tanks with the FFR suggested cross-over.
When the tanks are over 50% full, do you experience a lag in fuel transfer to the opposite tank when filling from a station pump?
The fuel will pool in the fill tube and I have to wait for it to drain down and balance.
Is anyone else having this issue?
This is obviously due to the position of the cross-over hose at the bottom of the tanks.* Ideally, the cross-over needs to be placed near the top of the tanks, but we are limited due to engine interference.
Can anything be done about this aside from installing a transfer pump?
Do the aluminum tanks exhibit this pooling as well?

After a few months of testing, the LCD gauges are working well enough to lock in the design.
I’ll be having circuit boards made to clean things up. I’m also going to try a smaller 8 inch screen.
The 10.1 inch is really nice, but it requires a bit of rework with the steering column for clearance
which limits the tilt angle of the steering wheel. Over the Winter I’ll play around with the gauge
pod and square up the corners to properly fit the bigger screen. The 8 inch tablet can then serve
as a remote screen.
It feels like a proud daddy moment to have this LCD gauge project wrap up.

I’m going to tackle the hood alignment and fitment issue next. I think I’ll take a page out of
Mike and Dave’s book with a fixed fender and cut out a smaller opening for the hood. What
are you using for hinges? Hood prop, or smaller gas shocks? I’m leaning toward prop at the
moment.

The hinges I just made myself and I am just using a prop for now.
The FF5 struts died so I have just left them off until I have time to spend on it.

I really liked the function of the trunk hinges on my old 350z roadster, self contained shocks and brought the trunk lid "up and out" rather than just a tilt.

It happened. If finally happened. 5 years later, the sealant finally gave way.
What is my best option to drain the tank(s)? Disconnect the fuel rail hose, turn on the pump and redirect to some fuel cans?
I see some aluminum tanks in my future or possible C5 virgin tanks with a dual
pump setup and NO FREAKIN HOLES IN THE SIDE!
For me I learned too late, so here's a photo of what you can expect for drilling and using a sealer. It's just a matter of time.
58531
If you haven't done it, don't do it. There are better ways of connecting the cross-over
starting with Shanes's product.
I think I'll cap the passenger tank with an AN fitting to round out the remainder
of the year, then weigh my options for 2017. It's not like I'll be driving far
anyway.

If you are replacing the tanks, go with the aluminum tanks. You may also want to consider having them notched at the top to keep the fill hose from being pressed against the body, and being kinked. It made a huge difference in mine. And now fuel can be put in without it taking 20 minutes.
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb94/jmichaelbaskin/Fuel%20Tanks%20Reinstalled%2001_zpswhwhzkf1.jpg (http://s210.photobucket.com/user/jmichaelbaskin/media/Fuel%20Tanks%20Reinstalled%2001_zpswhwhzkf1.jpg.ht ml)
Tony asked if he could put a drain in the bottom of each tank that would allow them to be drained when needed. I said "Heck Yeah"!
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb94/jmichaelbaskin/image_zpsbfpfcctm.jpeg (http://s210.photobucket.com/user/jmichaelbaskin/media/image_zpsbfpfcctm.jpeg.html)
I think it cost about 300 or so to have these two things done. But in the long run, I think it was money well spent.

Cool mods, thanks for the tips Mike. Having a drain seems like a good plan.
I'm dreading the need to replace half of the fuel system, so I may go with the C5 virgin tanks with a cross-over pump. We'll see! Those aluminum tanks are gorgeous.
The Stig

Those aluminum tanks are gorgeous.
The coolest thing about them is that they work, and they seal. I used an AN24 Cross over hose, as well as fittings for AN10 hose fittings at the bottom of each tank to feed the fuel pump, as well as for the return from the rails. The original "plastic" corvette tanks were a concern for me. For the exact reason that you posted in this thread.
It's a very lucky thing that they started leaking in your garage, instead of while you were driving with a hot engine and exhaust right behind them.
Like everything else in the GTM build, the use of the aluminum tanks were simply a matter of choice. But in this case, I felt it was a necessary choice, and worth whatever expense it took to get to a comfortable solution. I was never really comfortable with cutting holes in the tanks (at the bottom of the tank) and then trying to seal it back up.
So I was really happy when David Borden posted his interest in having prototypes of Aluminum Fuel Tanks made for a potential group buy for the GTM builders at that time. As soon as I read it, I was all in.

No doubt; lucky for me it was just a few drips that set off enough fuel odour to get my attention.
I ended up getting two virgin C5 tanks. The car is back together, but now we're facing sub zero temps and adverse weather.
I'm hoping to get the alignment done before shutting it down for the Winter.
I'll dedicate the cold season to completing the body work so I can think about paint for the Spring.
A couple of photos for a visual. I'm just about wrapped up with the menu structure of the LCD gauges.
One day I'll stop messing with the graphics and move onto something else. :o

I think a guy named Ron was the original producer off the aluminum tanks. He was friends with Ted from Quick Racing Products. You might want to try and reach Ron via Ted at QRP? He may have the dimensions/plans somewhere which would save you a lot of measuring and trial and error work.
Looks like QRP is still listing the tanks here...

The brain of the LCD gauges is almost complete! These proto-type boards are A-1 quality and better than some production level boards that
I've worked on. I've got a TPMS system on order that I'm going to integrate into the setup and then it's all body work and paint prep over the
Winter.

I'm on the verge of integrating a 3rd party TPMS system into the GTM. The sensors are external, valve stem versions and I'm not sure what to think.
They are quite large and will most definitely require additional wheel balancing. The hard part is reverse-engineering the pressure data from the 3rd party
hardware into my module.

In other news, I just found out a competitor for the LCDi system ripped off my PDF document and pasted it on their website. I guess they aren't
talented enough to write their own documentation which makes me question the integrity of their product.

I try to not get too up tight about it and figure that people are smart enough to see the differences in quality and hopefully also want to go with the supplier that has been on these forums for many years, but it is pretty damn ballsy and annoying.
I have taken over other people's cool ideas and sold them through my business, but I have ALWYAS had conversations with those creators and paid to take over their items with their blessings...and I have got it in writing.
Pretty disgusting when I see people who don't even pay to be vendors selling parts that I designed and have for sale.

So those basically act as a dust cover too, with a sensor? How much stress would that put on the valve stem for us guys who like to track occasionally, at 150ish mph? Seems like a lot of torque on the stem, but maybe not. GM/AC Delco replacement TPMS's are only like $20... any way to tie into something like this?

Seems to be a lot of TPMS apps for android but mixed reviews, and not sure what sensors they are using..

Yes sir, I'm all over that angle. I grabbed two sets (315 and 433 MHz) as the TPMS system does not specify the frequency.
Time will tell if the sensors will communicate with the hardware.
63869
As for the other external sensors, they double as a dust cap as well. I'm not too sure how they'll handle at 150+ MPH, but I'd imagine the mass
will only be an issue with extreme acceleration/deceleration unless you are thinking about load on the stem due to centrifugal force?

Hey Mike, I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. Most of my forum visits have been via cell phone, so I must have scrolled past this. I didn't realise you were also getting ripped off. Hopefully the exposure you receive from the community will come back full circle to bite their rear-ends!
I'm suspicious about that Vaydor guy. He was inquiring about my project for weeks and at times complaining about the cost. His other posts on this forum seek "cheap" LCD gauge solutions, but then he ends up promoting a sub-par system that costs 3-4 times as much!
Offline he was asking me about working with "THEM" to produce drivers for my hardware to work with their graphics.
Hmmm...then suddenly my work ends up on the website that he's advertising.
Call me crazy, but I see a connection. At the very least, he showed 'those guys' this thread and they took it upon themselves to steal my stuff. It seems to be the likely story
based on my conversations with Vaydor.
Who knows? Who cares? I'm going work harder to make sure my toys are better than theirs. I think I'm on the right track.

I finally put down the laptop and went into the garage.
I'm cleaning up some annoying issues that have been bothering me since buying
the car.
The telescopic steering has been removed - it's just not worth connecting for the minimal
movement in my setup. The remaining bug is the play between the inner shaft and outer
collar. When turning it feels very sloppy and will begin to bind when there is resistance
in the steering rack.
65880
I'd like to cut the outer collar at the red line and find a flanged bearing with a 1 inch inner ring diameter and 1 5/8 inch outer ring diameter to insert.
65881
If I'm not mistaken, someone on this forum has already done this mod.
If you're out there, please post the bearing PN#! If I find it, I'll post it first.
https://cdn3.volusion.com/jvvsn.zmqva/v/vspfiles/photos/Kit8233-2.jpg?1482229656
Lastly, the steering shaft is hitting my clutch pedal. I'd really hate to notch the pedal
or shaft. From what I can tell the pedal assembly cannot be easily moved and there's
no visible lateral adjustment in the pedals. Does anyone have experience with the
Wilwood product or have a similar interference issue as mine?
65879
My steering was sloppy with a lot of play as well. I just drilled and tapped a hole and put in a set screw to join those pieces together. A lot more solid now.
I can't help with the pedal, my steering column sits right in the middle between the brake and clutch pedals.
I'd like to come get a demo of your gauges some time when I'm in Toronto. I'm in BC but my son is at the University of Waterloo so we are through That area sometimes.

Joining the pieces together is a great idea. I'm also thinking about sleeving the inner shaft with a brass bushing, but I'm not
sure how well that will work in the long term. Worst case, if the bushing needs to be replaced, it's an easy 10 minute task.

For sure! My goal of having a complete, "glass cockpit" is getting closer. TESLA meets GTM is the theme! :p
What isn't going well is the TPMS merger.
The external vale stem caps are ugly and completely useless. You'll be laughing from a mile away if you put these things on your car!
Needless to say, if I can't get the internal sensors to work, this 3rd party system is going bye-bye. I certainly cannot sell this setup.
It's too bad if it doesn't work out because this product also reports tire temperature. Don't ask me how, because the external sensor
cannot be very accurate reading temperature via the valve stem with ambient air effecting the reading.

Another milestone is coming for this GTM as I prepare for the alignment this weekend.
I've been reading a few threads and doing a bit of bench racing on the initial start points. I'm not too worried about getting it perfect
the first time as I'm planning to upgrade the complete stock GEN 1 suspension.
We're still using the Yellow KONI's, stock cam bolts, fixed control arm, etc.
These are the numbers that I found for initial settings:
Front:
Toe In (inches): 1/8
Camber (deg): -0.25
Caster (deg): 2.5
Rear:
Toe In (inches): 1/8
Camber (deg): -0.5
Caster (deg): N/A
I'll be reviewing this thread as it has a great deal of info:
http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?1994-Chassis-Set-Up&highlight=alignment+gtm
In addition to the suspension, I'd like to finally get moving on the body work - especially the hood.
Points to be addressed include the:
- passenger side closing points near the fender and door
- hood opening (smaller opening section with fixed nose)
- Wheel arcs
- Frontal radiator opening
My Buddy Ron (Presto51) has been in the news recently with his expect help on Tucker's car (Brent),
so I'll plug him again with his advice on getting my front end remodelled. I'll be using clay and some
non-stick tape to get the fiberglass lines setup. Then layers of cloth and resin for strength before
slapping on the filler.
The final look will appear something like the upper image.

these Ford sensors require a transmitter to help communicate with the module. A few couple of weeks for this tool to arrive from CA before

It almost seemed like the GTM craze was dying off when I last checked the forum, but it's nice to
see many new build threads popping up.
Another year in the books and my car has sat pretty much idle. This year will be no different as we're
moving (again). This is our 3rd move since buying the GTM and hopefully our last! Going on 7 years
without door glass and a paint job. At least it's aligned and I can drive it around 'Ghetto style' in good
weather.
Anyway, I have a cool story to share. Telling my wife didn't result in the excitement I was expecting;
she just doesn't understand the automotive industry or the chain of events...so check this out:
I've been selling a few more LCD systems these past few months. A local guy not too far from Toronto
ended up buying a single screen setup for a custom Corvette. He did some work through Pfaff designs
in Detroit as his customer plans to show this car at SEMA and other shows.
Two weeks ago I was approached by another local shop, pretty much within my region. He called to get
more information and invited me down to see his place.
It turns out he received my information via Pfaff Designs as he mentioned my LCD system that was getting
installed in the Corvette.
Just for the record, I've never called Pfaff or have any personal communication with them. I'm amazed that
a reputable company in the USA thought about my LCD system to recommend to a customer of theirs.
Going further, at least two...maybe three cars that purchased the digital gauges will be at SEMA this Fall.
My wife has no idea what potential this may have, but it literally scares me.
I never thought for a second that a personal project that I made for my car would turn into small sales
to a handful of forum members, and now reaching some of the biggest shows in North America.
My stuff is built in the basement with mostly off-the-shelf materials. I feel like my game needs to step-up
a few notches. Everything from graphics, to custom enclosures, complete software packages and documentation, etc.
I don't know if this is going to escalate, or just remain "status-quo", but I'm inspired to jump to the next level.
I'll post some photos of the completed cars once the builders finish up. These cars are jaw-dropping!

Congratulations. I can tell you from experience that many "big companies" in the car aftermarket start off as personal projects in some ones garage. The problem is going to be that once people see how cool your stuff is, they will try and copy it. :(

That's the sad part. it's tough to protect electronics via patents, so I'm a bit hesitant to invest large amounts of money
into developing this further.
Any of the big three (or four) could easily copy this idea and mass produce it. I'm not so sure they could compete with
the price point however; they would have to cut their current retail by about 60% USD.
I'm just a drop in the ocean compared to their stronghold in the market. I doubt anything that I'm doing would ever
threaten their sales.

Well, how about this?
What are you using to connect your upper rad hose? I'd like to use a more appealing
solution than rubber hose if possible.
Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure that's supposed to use the OEM upper radiator hose from the 'Vette. You just cut it down and put one end on the radiator neck and insert the flex tube into the other end and use hose clamps. You could probably also use a silicone 90" elbow of proper size.

Have you thought about just keeping your dashes bespoke for whatever the customer needs? Case in point is that I know a guy here local that does custom car work. Not your normal stuff, but some serious stuff where MLB players will go and buy a McLaren and drive it over from the lot and ask him to gut the interior and "make it their own". He only does high end stuff. I think your product would fit into this market nicely, and you could likely charge 60% MORE than the other guys, and these people would pay it to have something that no one else has. If you are interested, let me know and I will put you in touch with this shop. They do some amazing work.

Thanks Shane, I appreciate the quick response. I'll likely use the Vette hose for now, then replace it with a chrome neck later.
Mike,
By "Bespoke", do you mean 'custom' or "exclusive"?
At the moment every kit that I've sold has been customized graphically and even to adapt 3rd party hardware (ie: HVAC or lift systems).
I'm not opposed to designing exclusive graphics for people. My current graphic capability could not compete with OEM supercars.
I have already priced out the software at $40,000 USD + license fee per unit. I can't do that right now.
Thanks for the offer to refer me. I'll keep it in mind once I have updated the hardware and found a better graphics solution.

Hey Tino,
The 90 degree elbows you are talking about are something like the Spectre Performance 7898 Magna-kool Radiator Hose End Cover. I'm not sure if this is the exact model number, as I only came across the name brand one day and jotted down the note to go back later and get the proper one, but here is a link

I personally would stick with silicone and aluminum, although we do have some steel on the race car. Not a fan of the corrugated hoses and tubes. They tend to adversely effect flow. They may be convenient, but you will never see one on a car I am involved with.

Today I'm going to switch hats from,"LCD Business Tino" back to, "Building a kit-car Tino". I miss getting my hands dirty and working in the garage...
and just being an F5R forum dude!
After many years of sitting on this project, I'm biting down and making time for myself and the GTM. Job #1 is getting my own LCD gauges installed.
It's a crime that I'm not able to demo the system, or provide a decent photo of the interior when people ask. Today I spent the afternoon gutting the
interior.
The entire dash has been removed, seats pulled out, and steering column (again). The sloppy play in the linkage needs to get fixed. I know I'm
missing a bearing, or sleeve in the telescopic portion of the column. There is also a requirement for a secondary bracket and flange bearing to
prevent the universal joint from binding when the steering wheel is turning.
Now that I'm in the footwell area, the openings in the firewall can be addressed. If you haven't looked close enough, or used some backlighting, you
may not notice all of the air leaks. Most obvious is above the pedal box - I'd like to make a cover to keep the rad heat from getting into the cabin.
I'm having someone redo the gauge pod, and will be replacing the vinyl with Carbon Fiber (same for the passenger side cover). I think a matte finish
will be best to reduce sun glare. The contour of the pod is also going to change from a rounded hood, to a flat top with radiused corners to fit a 12.1"
LCD screen.
The stereo has been pulled and will be replaced with a touchscreen controller/media player with all the options to use as a demo at car shows and future
trade shows. Plus, you can't beat the cool factor of an electronic engine start/stop on screen!
In other news, I met Murray Pfaff while doing a tradeshow in Toronto. Funny guy, and remembered recommending my system to a customer of his.
I thanked him for hooking me up, and he said he'd look me up from time-to-time. We shook hands, exchanged business cards, and off we went.
Kinda cool to finally meet him after seeing so much of his work!
Look at me writing about business...
Anyway, I'll update again once the new dash pod is shaped. Right now, the guy is laying down the fiberglass to make a mold/copy of the original and
then we're going to modify the copy ( I have no idea how this stuff works)!

Tino. I don't know if your steering wheel flexes too much on it's mounts but this is how I stiffened mine. 4 bolts vs 2 and moved the wheel closer to the dash compensating for the space out caused by the quick release steering hub.
LCD Gauges
03-24-2019, 02:05 PM
Good idea! More mounting points will certainly help the total column flex.
The issue with mine is more with the shaft play, and binding when turning the wheel. The U-Joint tends to "walk up" at a certain
degree and cause a bit of a jolt. If I can mount a bearing just before the u-joint, it will eliminate the nuisance as well.

I can't say I'm disappointed in the progress however, the new interior is going to look great. I'm planning to redo the console and skin the waterfall, as well as the passenger cover in Carbon Fiber.
7 years and counting. I've torn out the inside for the 3rd time. I'm ripping out most of the electrical that was installed when I purchased the used kit. Ideally, I want to

Regular saw blades in an air saw can be used to cut fiberglass and CF but they wear out quickly. I found some carbide blades at Home Depot that last a LONG time. They are used for cutting ceramics. They have little bits of carbide fused to the blade. This still is just a rough cut and an air sander or file can be used to straighten all the rough cuts. It's definitely a process.

I just checked out their website and I see lots of different carbide blades for jigsaws and sawzalls, but I don't see any that look like they're specifically for a small body saw? I agree. As good as the new 3D carbon fiber vinyl overlays look, I'm a big fan of sending a DXF file of the gauge surround to Shane at Vraptor, have him cut it from aluminum (with perfectly straight lines, arcs, circles, symmetry, etc), then take that exact same DXF to the wife's Cricut and cut (with perfectly straight lines, arcs, circles, symmetry, etc) the pattern from CF vinyl and lay it on the aluminum.

Beeman is rubbing off on me, I'm cutting up my car! The center console section is getting dropped down
8 inches to fit a bigger LCD screen in place of the Double DIN unit.
The shifter is lower by 5 inches as it sits. I'll have to stick the seat in there to get a feel for everything
before the welding begins.

If anyone wants some decent software for making wiring diagrams, give TinyCAD a try. It also does
simulation if you're doing some advanced projects. Digikey also has a wiring CAD, but it's only available
online. TinyCAD is not as pretty, but it will let you visualize the gauge, and also get the colour down
just like the vehicle wiring harness. You can move objects around, and the wiring will remain intact
which is nice.

Test fitting of the new vent design looks good. It's currently sitting on top of the existing
cover, but it will sit flush once screwed down. No more bent, aluminum! I think I'll get
them done with a Black, anodized finish?

The great thing about the GTM - build it how you want it!
Just remember that FFR used CAD and FEA to design the chassis for rigidity. The center backbone gives the chassis rigidity in the region of the door openings since there are no full length door bars. I doubt you would even notice changes in chassis rigidity after modifying the backbone in a street car with the roof structure intact. I modified my roof structure so I added beefy door bars...
I ended up buying a windshield vent kit from Summit, it has pretty nice black plastic vents.

Actually, I did notice a bit of a 'buckle' with only one bar cut.
The chassis is also supported by the hoist at the insides of
the wheel wells where the footwell and fuel tanks meet.
I'd imagine it would be worse with weight on wheels.
It makes me want to extend the bar to the HVAC enclosure
and build an 'x' bar in between.

That buckle you felt was just the result of tension created in the chassis metal from expansion/contraction by the welding process, not anything bad. Your GTM just let out a sigh of relief.

Tough to say as the blade got jammed as if the interior folded inward, but I was expecting the upper cage to hold it back. In any case,
I hope you're correct!
At the very least, I'm going to weld in some matching tube stock (the green outline) and maybe add the third piece depending on how
the structure reacts when I cut the second bar:

It's all cut, and no drama with buckling. I guess you were right Beemz!
The new shifter position feels great. Aside from being a few inches further away from the
steering wheel (note to racers for the extra .020 of a second to reach the shifter), It's a wrap.
Now the fun begins glassing in the new screen. It will sit back about 2 inches, with a bit more
tilt toward the windshield. It gives me goose bumps thinking about the finished look.

Getting somewhere with this interior (finally!). The Carbon Fiber is just beautiful; the vinyl can no longer stay! Over the Winter I'm
hoping to have the doors skinned with CF and the remainder of the console covered with a flat CF.
The gauges are alive, but not yet connected to the sensors. I'll be digging away all week to get a functional video of this thing in action.
Sorry about the blacked out squares, there are just too many eye-sores happening with wires and unfinished interior.
The new pod fits very nicely. It's not screwed down yet, but the contour matches well.

The Double DIN is roughed-in. I'll need a 90 degree adapter to get more clearance for cable in the rear,
then it will sit flush with the console. The LCD is a live shot, but there's no bezel over the display yet.
I'm trying to find the best method to cut Carbon Fiber straight and clean.

You can watch videos where people use just modeling clay covered with foil and then fiberglass. Then they remove all the clay and are left with a fiberglass panel. You could certainly do this with any kind of support such as wood or cardboard also. Fact is, I have some videos I haven't posted yet where I say that those that want to do fiberglass panels should become wood working craftsmen first because you will basically make a ton of stuff out of wood first. The real issue is if you want a professional finish or just something that "works"? The proper way is to shape what you want from wood, cardboard, whatever. Usually filling in blanks with lots of body filler. I have used 18 gallons of body filler on my revised GTM body so far, along with lots of wood and about a gallon of expanding foam. Once you have the shape exactly as you want then coat the "plug" with a quality primer and paint to make the surface clean and smooth. Once that is done, cover the plug with release agent and make a mold. Plenty of videos on how to do this online. Then make finished parts from the mold. Hand layup will work just fine but if you want a part that is half the weight then infusion is the way to go.
Kinda surprised you haven't done this process already on this project?

Body work is something I've always feared. Not because I'm scared to try something new, but more that I want the paint to be
perfect and this was not a project that I wanted to test my skills upon. In fact, our good buddy Ron was invited up here because

Okay. Now it comes down to how inexpensive, and labor intensive you want to go
Quick hit one time shot: mock up CAD (carboard aided design) to get the desired shaped. cover it with silver tape, parchment paper whatever so it the fiberglass or carbon won't stick to it, and lay your material down.
If you have deep pockets money is no object you can still CAD make a sturdy model, take it to your guy that did your dash pods.

Well, from your photoshop pics above, it looks like you're going for something similar to the stock diffuser, lowered down like the Gen II....so hopefully you can at least use your existing diffuser and cut it up/modify it to create the "base" for moulding your new piece. Yeah.....this is a lengthy and tedious process as to do it right, you will have to fabricate exaclty what you want, then create a mould from that part, then create a part from that mould. Been there many times. I would suggest using urethane pour foam #3 to get an initial shape of something like you have shown in the center of that first photoshop pic. Build your "platform" out of the stock diffuser, pour the foam right on top of it inside a simple box/dam to contain the foam from just spreading out everywhere, then tear away the box from the foam once it sets up and from there you can use a saw and surform cheesegrater to get the shape you're looking for, then sand the foam smooth with sandpaper and then you can paint over the foam with latex paint and then use mould release agent and make your mould. The fiberglass resin will eat the foam almost instantly, so you have to be sure that the foam is 100% covered with latex paint before you attempt to fiberglass over it.
You also have to keep in mind all of your angles to be sure that whatever you're taking a mould of can be removed from the mould and your finished part can be removed from the mould.

Would your Accusump fit in the huge space behind one of the rear tires on a simple frame/mount?
Or like Shane said, if you modify your current Accusump mounts, you could probably leave it where it is and just angle the diffuser down like the Gen 2, which is better than the Gen 1 for evacuating heat and is probably a more effective diffuser angle (I'm not quite to that point on my build).

We generally combine plasma-cut pieces of aluminum along with the pour foam. Create a "grid" or rows of CNC cut alum parts that represent the outer surface shape we're after, bond those pieces in place on the part we're building off of/modifying, pour the spaces in between the alum parts full of foam and then sand the foam down to the aluminum to get the final shape. This way you can produce very symmetrical parts for both RH and LH sides of the car...because you're using the same CNC cut alum shape for both sides. Before I had my own CNC plasma table, I did the same thing by drawing the parts out in CAD, printing the CAD parts off on paper, gluing the paper to sheets of thin plywood (underlayment) and cutting the parts out with a bandsaw. Use hot glue to stick the wood parts grid down to a surface and then pour foam between them.

A few updates as the nicer weather is motivating me to get back on the road! The rear diffuser is now being shaped by foam, glue, and a hot knife. It seems this approach will allow better lines and ease of mock up.
As I'm reviewing the car in more detail, I've found even more issues with the cooling system. I have no idea how this thing held together as long
as it did. Some hoses were loose fit without clamps, or incorrect sized clamps were used. The core valve was hanging by one rivet. Cracked heater core hose...a couple ends looked as though the were hacked by a dog's mouth?
