I know some of you have given the Simpson seatbelts the thumbs down.
I was about to install them today, didn't get any installing hardware for them and didn't have enough 1/2" bolts in my spare parts box.
Now have seconds thoughts about using them. They are pretty bulky, possibly a bit of overkill, and not quick to buckle up.
What have some of you used in place of the Simpson?

Jim, I just opted for lap belts from Summit, pretty reasonable in cost, offer them in many different colors and are installed in default locations.

I went with a three point retractable. They were relatively inexpensive. The Simpsons have an expiration, or they used to. They are also hard to deal around with. I would have considered a cam lock five point. but at the end of the day the retractable seemed the best approach. Another consideration is the need to essentially remove the body to work on them. One draw back is that makes the roller necessary for a third mounting point.

Three point retractable in my car. I didn't use the roll bar and made a tube to go into the roll bar receiver. Welded a plate on top and threaded it. The tube and top plate are .250" thick.

Thanks for the info guys.
Bill, what belt are you using? I don't want to have the seatbelt retractor up by the roll bar. Looks like you either don't have one or it is down by the floor.

Wrp, my Simpson has an expiration date of Dec 2019 on it. My kit was delivered on Feb 2018.

Jim, the retractor is on the outside floor belt mount bracket. I have "Beam's Seat Belts" with air plane style latch. The buckle slides on the belt, I think it works better in our cars than the solid buckle side belts. The part number is used is BEA300-10, these belts are 160" long. Part number BEA300P-10 is 152" long and should work fine. I went with the longer ones to be safe.

Bill, thanks for the info. I ordered the 152" belts today.
The Simpson belts are now added to my pile of parts to be sold.

I looked up these Beam Seat Belts based on this conversation and they look like a great alternative. You had my attention when you said " essentially have to REMOVE the body to work on them".....

I ended up using Four point belts from RteroBelts https://www.retrobelt.com/products/four-point-belt-system-with-installation-hardware, they were acceptable for my inspection to get my plates. They needed to meet or exceed Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards FMVSS 209 and FMVSS 302 and these are advertised to do so and don't have an expiry date which is why my local authorities did not accept the Simpson belts.

I used G-force Tuner belts (link below), they have a plug in style connection just like your daily driver. I originally got the 3 inch version and they just felt big and bulky and swapped out for the 2 inch wide again like the daily driver. Feels more normal to me, and the price was pretty good.

Whatever I have said, if I were seriously tracking the car, I would have stayed with the Simpsons

After looking at the 4 point belts AJT is using I cancelled the Beams belts and ordered the Retrobelts.

I put the Simpsons on eBay today.

Got the RetroBelts today, their shipping was only $5 and they sent them Priority mail. Thanks again AJT, nice 4 point seatbelts.
Every strap is adjustable, I'll probably cut the straps that go over the shoulders, each of them have 2 adjustments for length.

ON belts, you really need to have the fifth belt to keep from going under belt or belt going up and getting body parts that we all don't want to be damaged!
THink about it!
A lot of people think that will not happen to me because i don't do all that kind of things. Well to all of us with the HP to weight we have, even the one with lower HP, things happen very fast, could be you or the other car. Think about it!

The only four point belts that are DOT approved and have antisubmarine tech are the Schroth four point belts

Yes, you are correct, however as you have noted it won't happen to me.
My justification is (weak) there are many using 2 and 3 point belts, and 4 is better than either.

I like the belts tha Bill is using, question, what side is the retractor on ( inside or out side) and can the seat be back all the way without the retractor being in the way? I have the Simpsons in now and will leave them inplace for show but have been looking for something that is a little simpler.

Duff, the retractor is on the outside and the seats are all of the way back.

There is no such thing as too safe. One question though. Where did you anchor the fifth belt? Any pictures would be appreciated.

Had seat slot put in seat for proper fit and put bolt under seat into the metal between small tubes
