Starting to mock up the radiator installation, and "hold the bottom up with zip-ties" (!!) just isn't gonna cut it.

I'd like to make up a "real" lower edge mount, that will be independent of the tin that attaches to the bodywork at final assembly.

Question is:
Does the "plane" of the radiator follow the angle that the small 3/4" upper mounting tubes are set at?
This angle appears to be about 45 degs.

The radiator should be at 51 degrees to allow the provided radiator aluminum panels to fit. Breeze makes an upper hinge to allow for flexible and secure mounting at the top and then a lower support as well.

Breeze makes a really nice upper and lower mount.

Hi John,

The zip ties do a fine temporary job until the lower aluminum is riveted in and holds the lower rad in place.

That said, many (including myself for 2 builds and the gentlemen above) install a piano hinge on top and an adjustable lower mount from Breeze.

HTH,

:)

Thanks for the input guys...
I just looked at Breeze. Their lower mount is very similar to what I've come up with on my own. I will do the piano hinge mod as well.

I'm mocking up my upper & lower radiator hoses and puke tank. It's somewhat difficult to get proper hose & pipe lengths with the bottom of the radiator flapping around on zip-ties, hence the angle & mount questions.

I intend to use a combination of pre-molded hoses and some stainless tubing, (The flex hose thing isn't happening) so I need the pieces in very close to final location.

For the hoses, have you looked at Boig's Cool Tubes?

Fixit,

You can't go wrong with Mark's stuff and consider getting his fan shroud if you don't already have it.
Also, I made my own radiator mounting system, but please know that it was Mark Reynolds Inspired!
I used used his shroud which now totally supports the radiator which you can see below:

Also, his seat brackets are dynamite too with the perfect angle for me and Mrs. Go-Dad.

Good Luck From The Dark Dart Side!

Steve

I replaced my flex hose with Boig's Cool Tubes and am very happy I did! My older style rad lower opening is not bent like the new ones and the flex tubing was hitting the top of the tow hook but the new one misses it by a good 1/2".

"Gentlemen"?!?

I thought this was a family friendly site... :p

Ditto on the cool tubes btw...

Yup... already have Mark's fan shroud & seat mounts.

I'm running a Coyote, so the hoses are a bit weird (one has a 1-1/2" quick-connect on it). I've got access to some 1-1/2" stainless tubing from a buddy's scrap bin (muffler shop), so I'll come up with something for the hard pipes.

I used all the Breeze stuff on mine. Great quality and made the installation and adjustment very easy.

X’s whatever it is for Breeze, excellent products.

Don’t sweat the radiator angle too much. If you use the F5-provided radiator aluminum, you’ll likely find that the left side piece puts the radiator at a different angle than the right side, & you’ll remake one or both pieces to match the radiator. If you use the Mike Everson piece, you’ll trim it to match whatever angle you settle on.

The important thing is to keep the radiator hose from rubbing the tow hook. I ground nearly 1/2” off my tow hook to get the clearance I wanted.

John

P.S. The Breeze radiator pieces, especially the lower mount & fan shroud, can’t be beat!

I am setting up the radiator - I have the top mounted, but where do I measure 58-degrees from? the hinge?

PS - I'm going to use the replicaparts panels so it's recommended to go 58-deg instead of the stock 51-degees.

With my frame level, I took the angle off the face of the radiator.

thx, I'll have to maybe get a level at HD or something, the iphone level tool is pretty quirky, almost goes totally horizontal to get 58 degrees reading... :S
