Awesome concept and I for one cannot wait to see this car come to life.

As a Canadian I would love to see this car available to the Canadian market at the same time as it is released in the USA and to that end, having imported hundreds of Factory Five Cars into Canada, I would like to offer my assistance in ensuring that this happens.

You need only contact me to enlist my help.

Hey Al:

Just curious how you go about registering this or a GTM. I know the Roadsters can be done as originals, but is it up to the individual provinces to determine the if and how?

In Ontario it's not a problem. You just have to have "kitcar" on the ownership; doesn't matter what the car looks like or is powered by. Also, that makes it free from Driveclean (emissions testing).

I have to say, I love the GTM - saw it in person and really respected the quality and performance. Unfortunately, for me, it's just too big of a car and, most importantly, it's not a convertible. I like my toys with a drop top.

That said, I was ecstatic to read that Factory Five is working on an affordable, lightweight, two-seater roadster. However, the fly in the ointment is I just can't get behind a removable top. I've owned a Mustang convertible, a BMW M Roadster, a Corvette convertible and a Miata. I've also seen the crappy tops on cars like the original Vipers and the Lotus Elise. And as exotic and fun to drive as those cars are, they just are not practical or even well-rounded toys.

I only took my convertibles out in nice weather, but I can't tell you the number of times we were out driving and a sudden cloudburst passed overhead. Without the ability to pull over and pull up the top (a real top, not some flimsy thing that takes 15 minutes to assemble or a hardtop sitting at home in the garage), we'd have looked pretty silly driving around in the rain and ruined a number of nice leather interiors.

Sorry, but unless they put a real folding convertible top on this thing, I just wouldn't buy it. Performance is NOT everything.
