Seating the torque converter in a trans can be a bit tedious especially being a noobie as I am. I read articles about the cir clip, etc.. The explanations were probably clear but they escaped me. This video shows how to do it.

I've messed with a Subaru, but most converters on domestic cars can simply be turned about a 1/2 a spin before it slides into a slot and moves back about 1/2."
The converter spins the transmission pump and works as a viscous clutch when the car is stopped.

I think you are correct. The issue was half of the large out tube stayed in the housing because it had separated from the torque converter due to the clip coming loose. Once attached it is a simple matter of inserting and turning half a turn as you say. Thanks!
