....... Will be changing oil at 1000 using a Mobile one M1-113 filter it is the same size as the one that came on the engine.

Thanks Paul

I picked up the Mobile One M1-113 and it fits. The FORD FL500S filter was about 3/4" longer and wouldn't fit (hit the frame). Took the factory supplied one to a Ford dealer and they didn't know what it was. The number on it wasn't in the books.

The pic is showing clearance with the filter installed only a 1/2 turn.

Scott, not sure what P/N you were referring to when you said the short one.

FYI... I looked at the remote filter kit supplied with the kit. It doesn't fit the engine filter mount (different size threads).

1,000 miles and now have a broken clutch cable. I know others have had this same issue, but can't remember who. Someone listed the Ford P/N but I can't find it. I also remember someone saying Forte has one. I looked it up. The definition says it's NOT adjustable. Not sure how well that fits.

Please chime in and tell me if you had issues and how the new one is holding up.... and where you purchased it.

Highly recommend the Ford Performance M-7553-C302 adjustable cable. It's what I installed in my first build Mk3 now almost 10 years ago and still working fine. Many others recommend it as well. Widely available for around $50 and a high quality piece. I personally haven't used the one from Forte, but understand what he's selling isn't the adjustable version.

Thanks Paul. I found one locally and installed it. I purchased my engine, trans, CLUTCH, etc directly from Ford Racing. I always thought the heavy duty clutch was just harder than normal to push. I'm amazed how easy it is to push now. The new cable has nylon (or similar material) ends.

Also, the old cable is .120" diameter cable. The new one is .145"

I purchased an oil cooler opening screen from Breeze. First off - It was exactly as described on their web site.

My issue is the size of the screen mesh compared to the brake vent screens that I received from FF. The FF screens have a smaller mesh opening. I ended up making my own, using steel wire mesh, powder coated (black). (vs Breeze - aluminum). Not exactly the same mesh size, but as close as I could find.

If anyone would like to purchase the Breeze screen, I'll make you a deal. Cost was $35, plus $9 shipping. Will sell for half price, $22, including shipping.

If you want a steel on, I'll make you a great deal on one of those too! PM me.

Edited: The third and fourth pics are the ones I made.

I experienced the same thing. Great quality and service from Breeze as usual, the screen size doesn’t align with the FFR ones and I like the finer mesh. Have a picture of the steel ones you made?

Dave, nice work, I also prefer the ones you made. I think the slightly finer mesh will keep those stones from damaging the cooler...

Took this down time to make some more progress on the car. Completed the four corner weights.
The first scale pic is weights pre-adjustments. Last pic is final weights.

Edited:Added final pic. I was surprised about the front to rear weight distribution. Rear weight 1,291, front 1,198

Finally installed the driveshaft loop. I purchased it long ago from a forum member. Was told it was from Forte, but can't confirm. He purchased it for his MK3, but had never installed it. Still need a hardware trip to pick up grade 8 bolts to finish the install. I was going to modify it, cut the bottom and make it a two-piece assembly, weld on blocks, drill and tap and bolt back together. Discovered you can remove the driveshaft without removing the loop, so no need to modify.

Nice distribution! Can I ask where you got the scales from? I need to do this.

A friend owns a auto garage and a friend of his has a oval track race car. We borrowed their scales. I was off about 40 pounds on the rear (and maybe 10 in the front). While installing the spinners/covers, thinking I'm done, I gave the DS rear adjustment an extra 1/4 turn and ended up this close by accident.

I heard that the Tangent fog lights were no longer available, but liked the look and wanted some. I purchased the fog lights separately (P/N UW3682) and made the mounting bracket and center grill. Each center grill piece is a separate slice of aluminum, .090" thick.

By the way, don't drop the light before you install it. Ordered another set, guess I now have one spare light.

QUESTION: I've seen the running/parking light toward the inside and outside. The original Tangent instructions show to the inside. What do you think looks better?

Spacers made and installed. Wiring complete. Chose to have the running/park lights on the inside, same as the Tangents lights. I wired the running lights in with the cars running lights. Installed the switch next to the headlight switch. Used the original fan relay location in the fuse box and the unused fan relay. Also added a 3/4" SST washer to dress up the switch face, same as all the other switches on the dash.

I decided to add a grille. The originals looks like this. The original was also quite a bit smaller and a different shape.

Here's my attempt at making one. It's not finished yet and only sitting in place. Still need to weld and add mounting tabs.

I got tired of hearing the fan run non-stop.
Added the Cooling Fan Controller last week (Maradyne Perf. Fans Mfa136 Maradyne Pwm Contoller). I've seen several people add the Sensor Adaptor (Dewhel Aluminum Black Water Temp Meter Temperature Gauge Joint Pipe Radiator Sensor Adaptor Clamps 38mm) in the lower radiator hose. I added it to the top hose, to read the temp of the engine, prior to cooling in the radiator. Being temperature adjustable, it would probably work in the bottom hose as well, but that temp would very based on the outside temp and how fast the coolant cooled off in the radiator. I don't park my car in the winter. The temp doesn't varies enough to park it in Atlanta, so it's out often.

I purchased exhaust baffles from Car Chemistry. The 2" Dia baffles measure approx 1. 875" O.D. ... The size of the I.D of a 2" pipe, according to them.
I purchased 2" O.D. SST perforated tubing to use as a sleeve. The FFR Polished SST side pipes I.D. measures approx. 2.03". To retain the baffles, I installed two #10 x 2" self tapping screws on the underside.

The two caps shown are to restrict the flow, a little or a lot. I used the ones with the hole. The instructions say you can use both, the one with the hole closest to the engine and the solid one at the exit end. I'm temped to remove the baffles and install the solid ones too, to see the difference.

The noise level dropped significantly while cruising.

How bad did it hurt your performance?

Ducky2009

How bad did it hurt your performance?

It didn't Steve. With the FF side pipes, the engine has less back pressure than a stock setup. Some more back pressure should increase low end performance, and reduce high RPM performance. It definitely has more low end power. Can't tell a difference (loss of power) in 1st or 2nd at full throttle. Not sure what it will do in higher gears.

I purchased the new Coyote gas pedal bracket from FF. Turns out, I can't install it after the footbox sheet metal is installed. The intent was to raise the gas pedal up a little higher.
It may be possible if you remove the steering shaft, but I'm not going to try.

Al_C
10-10-2023, 05:15 PM
I went and looked at mine and see the problem. There isn't a whole lot of room to play with there. You could conceivably fabricate something to bolt in there from the inside, but getting the accelerator unit itself around the shaft could be problematic. You could also shorten the pedal shaft (or whatever you call it). Maybe you already did that.

Ducky2009
10-11-2023, 11:34 AM
Al, Yes I did shorten the pedal shaft, per the original instructions. Looking at the newer assembly instructions, I noticed that the pedal, because of the bracket angle, looked to be lower to the floor (in the direction as you're pushing the gas pedal down). If I'm pushing the brakes and rock my foot sideways, I can push the accelerator pedal down a little.

I added LED Brake Lights. Big Difference. This pic is with only the running lights on, Not with the brake pedal depressed. I've ordered two more for the turn signals

P/N 54 4014-SMD Plug and Play, no wiring changes needed.

I have a MK4. I originally installed a "not so stellar" radio and it died a year later. Who has a radio brand that they would recommend? And speakers. I presently have four 6.5" round in the back of the cockpit, behind the seats.
TIA

FYI.... I switched to Blue Tooth, but think I want a radio instead.

Ducky,

I've got an Infinity Marine Stereo on my car; however, the car is so darn loud we only listen to it when we are parked at car shows.
Infinity INF-PRV250 AM/FM/Bluetooth Multimedia Marine Receiver
Paul B. (Edwardb) had the same stereo one of his MK-4's.

Thanks Steve,

I welded a bracket to mount the radio under the dash. It holds an "old style" radio shape, and I'd like to keep the look. Looks like it "could" be an original equipment setup, if there ever (never...LOL) was one installed.

212651 212652

FYI.... My Master Switch is under the radio, so I don't want to mount a larger radio, and block the accessibility to it. Would rally not want to move the switch and have to rewire it.

I Hear You Sir Ducky!

I went with this unit because I needed something very shallow and water resistant.
Where the stereo is is where I have most of my switches so I totally understand not want to re-create the world.

So, I got tired of the fan noise. I removed the Maradyne Pwm Fan Controller and the stock/supplied noisy fan and replaced it with the Flex-Wave LoBoy Electric 16" Fan.
Hugh difference in noise level. I'd recommend it.

Same. When I turned it on via the override button I could feel it at the back of the car. Very powerful and quiet. Keeps the engine at 185 even in this blistering hot heat we have this year.

Is this a direct fit w/ the Breeze fan shroud (i.e. no other modifications needed)? You may have solved my Maradyne controller problem :) I still can't get it to work and I'm pretty sure it's dead on arrival (and out of warranty period). Was going to buy another, but if this fan works well and isn't crazy loud, I don't mind simplifying my setup and just getting this fan instead.

I used a constant temp controller from DC Controls unit with the stock fan. Virtually silent.
