Joel & Martin,
That's normal. When you shut off the ignition the tach, temp, pressure and volt gauges will hang at their last reading. If you turn the ignition back on but don't start the car you'll see them all sweep then go to zero (except volts which will show battery voltage).

Thanks Jeff,
I have observed those. I was just wondering how do I calibrate my two main gauges. I have the manual, it calls for come clicking to do, I am not sure based on what. Or how many clicks should I do, if that makes any sense :)

Tach and speedo are connected differently, so it could be a few things, #1, make sure you are supplying power appropriately.
Speed is registered through the GPS signal, so there is no physical connection to the car or real calibration - just make sure your GPS puck is plugged in and has a decent line of sight (it does take some time to acquire signal at times and wont register and speed until it does).
Tach will need a wired connection - you are running a different engine that I am, so I cant really speak to that. That also means your calibration will be different, but that should be noted in the instructions that came with the gauges. Once you have it in calibration mode, you press the button until it reads the number based on the calibration you need.

Thank. I looked at my box and found the gps cable. Attached now, magnet positioned on passenger side.
I may need to experiment with tach, got the instructions.

Just wanted to follow up on my issues. The missing gps cable solved the speedo 'problem.'
The tach issues - I forgot to run a cable to coil to pick up the pulses. My setting is 4= 8cyl/coil. Pretty simple.
Thanks,

Thanks,
Glad you were able to get all of that sorted out!
I finally finished up the dressing on the engine cover. I wanted something customized, but understated. As I have previously shown, I added some polished aluminum strips to the valve covers and now i painted a stripe on the engine cover with Guardsman blue (which will be what the car is painted). I also 3D printed a new nameplate and added some blue to it as well.

Week 62 update
The car is loaded up and on the way to see Jeff Kleiner for paint!

And now a sad, lonely, empty garage waits. I think this wait might be more painful than waiting for the kit to arrive.

Hey that trailer looks familiar!
Glad it is on the way. For sure the hardest part. What kind of time frame are you expecting?

Yes, Althea was telling us about you waiting on the front porch when they delivered yours. :)
I'm hoping end of June. Jeff isnt quite ready to start on mine yet (but this timing worked best to get it up there) and should be 10 weeks +or -

Is it still red...... or now blue? Hope you get it back soon!
It is currently splotchy :)
Kleiner was nice enough to send me a few pics of the completed bodywork after his masterful touch. It should be turning slicksand grey next week before its final blue beauty coat.

The paint is moving along. I went with the classic Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White stripes, but I added a black accent stripe on the outside of the white. I really liked how that looked on EdwardB's red 20th Anniversary Cobra and I thought it would add a modern touch to the vintage paint scheme; akin to the coyote in a cobra skin.
Here are a few pick Kleiner sent me in the various steps along the way.

The accent stripe seems to be a hit! I've seen several comments on a FB post, my wife likes it, my buddy and fellow FFR builder who stopped by while I was unmasking the body likes it and the guy who dropped his off with me yesterday REALLY likes it and said "Oh, I want you to do that on mine!" :)

Jeff great job on the paint, just seems like yesterday I was following along your bodywork thread. You have really stepped up your game. Joel what a nice build, beautiful car you built. I was planning Deep Impact Blue, but not you got me second guessing my color choice that Guardsman Blue looks real nice.

I had to fix a ball joint issue (drivers side had backed out), so tomorrow I’ll get it out for a drive and some pics. Believe me, it’s been more painful for me to have it back and not be able to drive it!

Looks great. Are you going to Caffeine and Octane on Sunday? I think I'll be there.
I think so. Obviously weather dependent and how tired I am from the UGA game on Saturday.
I'm ready to call #9028 graduated!
I'll do a graduation thread once I have some time and a nice day to do a photoshoot.
The last piece was the door sill. I did't want to do carpet, so I made some leather wrapped panels for the vertical area below the door and then cut some mahogany for an inlay on the door sill area. I love the way it plays off the wood steering wheel.

Joel's right, it's wall art that I shot for my friend Aaron while I was set up for Slick Sand. Whenever he gets around to giving it a final sand I'll paint it the same Viper Blue/Arctic White as the roadster he sold last June (been preoccupied prepping for the Gen 3 Coupe that will be arriving in a week or so :))

I recently moved and am now in the process of planning a 2 car garage addition. 1 bay will be a workshop (woodworking and car stuff) and the other will be Roadster parking and eventually a lift.
I'd love any suggestions or ideas from you guys on garage must haves or things I should consider.

Once had a house with a garage that was huge. The man who built the house has a 16' boat and you could pull it in and close the door. I was spoiled when I lived there. It was 26' deep and 26' wide. Room for 2 cars, motorcycle, workbench, freezer and LOTS more... and an 8' tall door (instead of a standard 7'). And if you want a lift, not sure how tall it needs to be.
Are you building it yourself?
wareaglescott
03-20-2019, 10:26 PM
Get the garage door opener that mounts on front wall so no stuff hanging in the way of the lift. Put 220v in the garage for the lift and potential future welder. Get a tall ceiling.
I am not building it myself - it is going to attach to the current house structure, so that along with permits, inspections, etc i'm leaving it to professionals.
The floor plan will be 20'x23'
My ceiling height will be between 10'4" and 11'8" based on the slope (and working around existing structures), which may not let me get full height on the lift with the cobra on top, but certainly enough to get under it comfortably and store another car underneath if need be. I am leaning toward a 4-post lift, but that will be a later addition.
I am planning for a jackshaft door opener and we are adding a new electrical 220 subpanel with a large number of outlets on the workshop side.
Some items I need to figure out:
Air compressor size/brand
Dust collection?
Bench tool storage & layout (drill press, grinder, mitre saw, router, table saw + potential new tools like a band saw)

Get the biggest air compressor you can stomach paying for. I always wish I had bigger and quieter.
I have about 1200 miles on the car now and things are doing great, with the exception of a power steering fluid leak (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?31970-Power-Steering-Leak).
I swapped out my headers from the terrible j-pipe design to full length headers from Gas-N
