View Full Version : Wrong Axles?

I recently got my kit and ordered the Factory Five axles since the axles from the WRX were worn out. I ordered the 81097 Complete CV Axles for the 2004, but apparently there is still modification needed? The axles have a female output, and the transmission does as well.
Has anyone else experienced this? I assumed I was ordering axles that would just plug right in and be ready to go.
Thanks!

Someone may have upgraded the trans in your wrx at some point? The output shaft changes design in the later years.

yup, I bet you're right. 2005+ transmission. I guess I still have to break down the axles and swap out the shafts.

You can always call FFR about swaping out axels. They might take them back as a return and swap for what you need.

Yeah, I could. I'd have to pay shipping back to them and shipping to me, though. I'll just get greasy and do it.
Thanks

How did you end up resolving this? I have a similar issue with my kit I just received.

Subaru did a running change in 2004, early ones got a male trans and late got female trans. Send them back to FFR to swap them out.

Yeah, FFR was great about the swap

FFR is great about customer service in general, it seems to me.

I agree with their great customer service. I talked with Dave and they are shipping me the new axles I need, and I will be shipping my old ones back, after I verify they are the correct size etc. Wayne's information regarding the mid year change in '04 transmissions was a big help in getting this accomplished. Thank you.
