Front wheel well splash panels - keep or not?

Are people installing the front inner fender splash panels, the ones that go behind the front wheels in front of the doors, or leaving that area open to vent air from the front wheel well on an 'R'?

Skip, I intsalled mine with rivnuts to allow removal.

I ran without them on my "S" for a while. There were some holes the let pebbles and sand off the tires accumulate in the foot well areas. At speed it would blow around in the cockpit. So I installed them.
The "r" might be different as your side thin aluminum stays high to the front of the cockpit.
If your going with the door vents. You would have to do something special anyway.

With an R and using the side rear vents you want to allow the surface air to flow and putting those panels on would prevent that

Tony, I just put the panels in to block off the front of the chassis, I didn't block off rear vent.

Did you just leave off the "elephant ear" panel that goes behind the front tire and in front of the door?

6030860309What I did was cut them down and rivited to the door to protect the fiberglass, I will run out and take a photo and post.

Thanks for the pictures. I was thinking of doing something similar to protect the door but leave the opening to vent. It looks like you didn't install any front splash shield either, just the radiator aluminum.

Correct have made some small panels to keep crap out of head lights

I have installed and the side splash panels and the front wheel well guard just not the rear wheel well guard but may do something like Retro did and just cover door

Good point - I missed the fact that this was an R. I have an S so it's different. There are no side panels and there are gaps where stuff can get in, even if you have all the interior panels installed. My racing seats are already so dirty... they will never ever become fully clean. Though part of that is the type of fabric the seats are covered with. It's like velcro for dirt.
