engine vin number

I am preparing my paperwork for the NJ registration and inspection process. They are looking for color photographs or tracings of the engine and transmission numbers. Would anyone know where those numbers are on a 2003 WRX motor and transmission?

Look on the top of the block where it bolts up to the trans.

THANK YOU SO MUCH that is exactly what I am looking for. To get your car registered and licensed in NJ you need to submit COLOR pictures or tracings of engine and transmission numbers and have them correspond to paid purchase invoice and VIN.
Now I need to figure out how to get those numbers and not take the car apart....

Good luck with that. The serial number on the engine has absolutely no relation to the vehicle's VIN. So, I'm 99% sure your engine and transmission numbers will not be documented on any invoice or bill of sale.

The number on the engine you are looking for is the one across the top of the housing at the rear most of the engine.

The transmission number is on a sticker that is on the top lefthand side closest to the motor.

Customs does the same thing when you import engines and transmissions. They check the VIN against what engine and transmission are supposed to be in the car according to the manufacturer.

Here is a picture of the transmission number. I believe the long number is the model and the small number is the serial number.
