...So I am not tracking on when\where to use sealant vs. not. ...When I tore my engine down it looks like the prior person who rebuilt used it on both sides of the TGV's, and on the gasket for the throttle body. Everything I read says no on oil pan, and TGV's, but not sure about throttle body gasket.

Thoughts?

Refer to the factory service manual for whether or not to use sealant. If you're tearing down the motor, I'd highly suggest downloading the FSM. I rebuilt my engine and as I recall, you should not use sealant at the TGVs or the throttle body, those areas use a gasket only. I do believe I used sealant (permatex ultra grey) at the oil pan and a few other places like where the valve cover goes over the cam shafts. This particular sealant is oil resistant but there are other options out there.

agreed FSM... there are cute little pictures indicating where sealer goes.

Another vote for getting a FSM, it's invaluable. I used /did not use ultra grey in the exact same places as STiPWRD mentions in his post.

Oil pan doesn't have a gasket, only sealer.

TGV's are gasket only. Likely the previous owner removed the manifold at one point and didn't want to pony up the $30+ for new gaskets. Sealer is also used on certain portions of the valve cover gasket and on the oil pump.
