I have seen some people really go above and beyond on their builds and it has inspired me to follow suit. I am trying to take apart the spindles, de-rust them using electrolysis, paint them and then put them back together. I am having trouble finding any instructions on taking them apart. I got the necessary press but was wondering if anyone could volunteer some directions.

Thank you

Push the spindle out from the back side of the spindle using the press, then push the bearing out from the outside of the spindle toward the inside, using the press. There is a circling you have to remove, and some seals too. Seal puller will get the seals and circling pliers for the circlips. You should download the factory service manual here:http://ken-gilbert.com/impreza-manuals

Here's some wisdom from the tube of you:

You'll notice at 9:22 the guy is using a sleeve (scrap metal) to press the new bearing on the hub. I bought a piece similar to this to accomplish the job, it has to be the right size:
McMaster part 6391K439 $5.07 SAE 841 Bronze Sleeve Bearing for 1-3/4" Shaft Diameter, 2" OD, 1" Length

If you have a bearing sleeve kit though you may be ok. You will definitely need a bearing race and seal driver kit:

and large bearing separator:

good luck

I have the HF tools STiPWRD referenced above and they have been incredibly valuable, and also reasonably priced. Use them to get the bearings off the hub, bearings of my differential, pressing out and in new bearings and the hubs, etc.

I'm not sure if you have figured out what paint you are going with, but I would highly recommend POR-15. I did my spindles and some of the other bare metal suspension parts in it and it's very durable. Just follow the instructions and you'll get good results and a finish that is very durable.
