I pieced mine together. Removed the OEM oil-water heat exchanger and the odd angle piece it mounts to. Replaced that assembly with a Mocal thermostat-based sandwich plate. Used A/N fittings and AN braided hose to go back to a Setrab oil cooler mounted in the rear next to the transmission. Added a SPAL electric fan on a thermostat. Lots of pics and more details in my build thread.
I think I read CPlavan mention in a previous thread that the latest FFR race car isn't even running an oil cooler (my guess it that means they are just running the stock oil cooler).

I run a 11" cooler paired with a 7" fan, I route the lines from the VW Mocal oil thermostat housing. The fan is controlled by me on my touch screen center console or through some rules of my after-run cooling function (within my electric system).

I am running virtually a stock set up on a an S model. It may see the odd track day, are many people. Finding oil temps high on stock setups? I figured an oil couldn't hurt.
I was going to mount one in the Left side vent as my air filter is in the R vent.

I haven't seen anyone who has a mixed-purpose car complain about high oil temps. So far, the only person I know who was having a real problem with it was Chad, but there were other things going on there since he was running a dry-sump, so I think at this point, the jury is out on whether or not a remote oil cooler is really needed. I think it's a good idea but we just don't have enough people who are dual-using their cars just yet and those who are are only doing AutoX which isn't nearly as hard on oil temps as the road racers.
The reason I added mine was that things are cramped back there and I didn't want to be limited down the road by other stuff in the way. I wanted to put this in and work around it, instead of the other way around.

After much research I am holding off on adding air to oil cooler until I determine if I have a need for my basically stock engine package, my car is track only.
