As I'm looking forward in my build, the donor ebrake just doesn't look like it's going to fit nicely. It seems like it's going to take any elbow space that would be available.
I've seen the estopp but am shying away due to cost. I just ordered the lokar kit, which is supposed to be more compact. How have you guys improved upon the ffr set up? How are you guys mounting things cleanly?

I took one from an MX-5. Takes some work to get the positioning down and sits rearward a bit. $20 on ebay.

Metros-
I have an 02 e brake. I mounted it biased towards the passenger side, at a slight angle. It clears the stock shifter (barely) and isn't in my way. If it's in the passenger's way....oh well :)
Crappy pic, but all I have for now.

Edit: TouchStone's solution is much prettier than mine. That's a good idea!

I was originally going to mount my donor's brake similar to yours, but when I went to bend the rear tab I heard and saw several stress cracks form in the metal. This prompted me to get something else.

Good thread - I'm close to doing the e-brake as well and have been trying to figure something out. Wayne has a post on this, using the Lokar handle. I can't really tell if the Lokar handle is really that much smaller than the donor handle. It seems like its within an inch.
TouchStone: Is the MX-5 handle taller than the WRX? It looks very tall in the pics. Not as long as the WRX though, which is great.

It is tall, which is why I mounted it below the beam. The tallness and the way it pivots causes the back end to hit the thick aluminum piece.

Its also easier to upgrade the grip. This may be next on my list of purchases. http://www.ebay.com/itm/E-BRAKE-HANDLE-HANDBRAKE-PARK-LEVER-GRIP-BLACK-LEATHER-RED-STITCH-/351097500922?fits=Model%3AMX-5+Miata&hash=item51bf0ab4fa:g:hRoAAOSwgQ9V50gL&vxp=mtr

This picture is our ebarke solution. We used the Lokar handle and only the right rear connected.
The Lokar handle did not pull as hard as the oem Subaru handle. So we put all the force to one wheel.

Our positioning of the bracket is not possible with stock tank.

Bob I like that last picture. That's along the lines of what I'd like to do. Then the guts of the ebrake are hidden with the center console. Thanks for sharing.

I raised the entire center tunnel 4 inches and welded up a new support for the cables from 2 x 3 x 3/16 steel angle, bolted to the tunnel support. I think the original aluminum brace would have worked, it was very awkward to implement in real life, aligning the cables and stops. I'm using the stock 05 wrx unit but this is the 4th iteration. I have a cheap electric soln too... only $35 for a strong electric linear motor.
I also lifted the MR2 shifter up about 2 inches above the stock FFR frame. I should have just removed the tubes and started from scratch...

I used the stock ebrake from 03
I also had the stress cracks and welded the cracks.
I fabricated a mount to hang the donor support from as the tunnel was binding the cables498294983049831

Got enough ways to mount the parking brake yet? Here's another. I mounted the 06 donor e-brake handle further back, to the left, and angled down so I could fit 2 bev holders into the console. I've got the Boyd tank so I had room.

I like yours as well Pete. Does the rear console cover fit over that?
AZPete

I didn't use the rear console cover because with the Boyd tank the FFR aluminum console cover is 3 inches further back, thus there's a gap, so I made my own with a curved top - for aesthetics, but now I'm thinking of adding a padded elbow rest.

Nice detail Pete, I have not figured out that rear section yet

I cut & bent a steel piece that the e-brake bolts to, and it bolts to a piece I made to fill the 3 gap. Then I just made a cover to hide this stuff. Since I'm not a welder, I'm just a hack with a hacksaw, files and bolts, I've got to hide my work. :)

I'm using sheet aluminum, 1/4 foam and medical grade black vinyl... You need the light colors to keep the inside temps down, I need black to keep them up!

A few of us went with the e-stopp electric brake. This one is mounted behind the driver's seat with the button mounted on the center console.

Lots of cool solutions here.
With the Boyd tank, the stock tunnel cover between the firewall is too small so I wanted to have the e-brake fully contained on the tunnel rails without having to attach the cables to that cover piece. I welded up a few brackets. The stock 02 ebrake mounting brackets are hardened steel and require carbide bits if you want to drill any new holes.

FYI, for those considering the Lokar e-brake here is a comparison of the Lokar unit to my 02 WRX donor. The handle is slightly shorter on the Lokar but everything else is what makes it significantly more compact and easier to mount. The Lokar looks and feels like great quality.

Working on mounting mine right now. Following Bob N Cincy's lead.
Bob - How did you get the end of the donor e-brake cable into the Lokar clevis? Did you slot it to allow the wire to pass through? I'm considering the simple route of just locking 1 wheel down like you did.

Hi Metros,
I don't think that the Lokar had the same leverage as the OEM.
Maybe the better grip on the OEM just allows you to pull it harder.
By only hooking it up to one wheel. It gave me enough force to lock up that wheel.
I drilled about a 3/8" hole in the side of the clevis, big enough for the Subaru cable end to fit through.
Then cut a slot (3/16) to the hole in the end of the clevis.
then put it together.
The Subaru cable end sit vertical in the locar clevis.

The cable end has threads and a nut. Can't you remove the nut, stick the threaded end of the cable through the hole on the Lokar swivel bracket, then put the nut on to capture it?
The Lokar unit does look clean. Bit spendy but it should look nice

Check out a foot applied e brake. I've decided to use one from a salvage car. There just isn't enough room at the console for a hand applied e brake and an arm rest. I'm opting for the arm rest. Since the car is a standard shift, the e brake may not see lots of use. Also adding a hill holder for those awkward situations.

After many months of stalling on the e brake I finally found a solution last night. Might not apply to all as my shifter is an mr2 with custom parts. I'll post pics later but in short I dropped it slightly below the frame rails and RN one rear faxing shifter cable through the middle of it.

I'm using an 06 brake. It's a bit different than the 02 brake. Copied important info from my build thread.
Instead of mounting it on top of the rails like FFR calls for, I mounted it below. I also move it over as far as possible to the passenger side for cable clearance. On the passenger side was a tab that gets cut off. Mine was slighly bent and preventing it from sitting flush against the rail. I trimmed it higher up and gained another 1/8" or so of side movement.
The rails are 3/4" tall and the steel bracket is another 3/16" or so. It's just held in place temporarily for now to test the fit but I love it. I used some 5/16" bolts going through the top of the rail through the bracket and held on with nylock nuts. The front tab of the e brake is on top of this bracket with an M8 and nylock holding it to the bracket. I need to make a similar bracket to hold the rear. The fore/aft cable runs underneath the ebrake and will be held down with a cable clamp. All in all the ebrake is about an inch lower and 2 inches farther forward than FFR's placement. Front tab to the ebrake is ~9" from the rear of the rails and the center of the shifter is 19 3/4" from the back of the rail. Placement is perfect. Before I had to move my arm awkwardly backwards to reach the e-brake and lift up at an odd angle because my arm was hitting the seat bolster. Now my arm is at a comfortable right angle when my hand is on the lever (wihch is good if I ever needed to pop the ebrake in an emergency).
Top View. Lots of extra holes in the rails now. Good thing they're not structural.

Angled view. That left most hole is the original FFR location for the ebrake.

I just bought a a 2" stroke linear actuator for 40 bucks and fabbed up all the mounts for it and set up the adjustment so its loose when all the way in and when the actuator runs all the way out the 2" and stops on its own the brake is just applied full so no need for limit switches. full in full out. and I run it off a momentary polarity reversing toggle switch. as well as its all hidden under the console. I have also made a new console that flows up between the seat to hide it all
