View Full Version : K-Tuned shifter loose?

Do you K-Tuned guys have such a play in the shifter?

I have it in any gear and neutral.

I was expecting this shifter to be super stiff and super precise, but it's loose. I tighten all bolts I could find and the arms under the shifter are not moving on that video. The play seems to be in the bushing on the right side of the shifter.

I'm sure it is built like the optional aluminum shifter from FFR. I bought one and tightened it up by shimming the "slop" in the block and bearing arrangement with some brass shim stock. The ball and socket design like the MR2 setup is inherently tighter... that's why I sold the FFR one. Besides the MR2 allowed me to run the cables backwards and use better 7 foot long cables

My shifter has the same amount of slop, you can do what Dan suggested. Im personally fine with a bit of movement it not quite as bad as yours.

Dan any pix of the adjustment you did?

It seems I am stupid today, I cannot picture in my head shimming the slop in the block/bearing arrangement with brass shims. :(
I guess I have to dismantle the shifter to gain access there?

I'll take a look, I don't want to keep it like this.

Frank,
When you add up all the slop in the transmission, cable connections, cable itself, and shifter mechanism.
The slop that I saw in your video I thought was very small. I was actually impressed.

Bob, really? I was able to finally impress you? :) Now that's a first, I'll take it as a compliment. :)

Joke aside, everything is connected, yes, maybe for now I could leave it that way and see how it drives?
If I'm not happy I'll check Dan's fix and do it then. I have so many required things to complete in order to drive that car on the road, I guess I can wait on the shifter slop. :) I'll keep Dan's thread on mind.

I think my expectations where just a little too high, I really was expecting a shifter that wouldn't move 1/132th. Maybe that just doesn't exist.

Not sure if anyone is still on here, but I have one on my 6-speed that's new to me. The shifter feels terrible. Even on the longer setting the throw is so short that you really have to be very careful when you shift it to not put in the wrong gear. It's so clunky and hard to push into gear as well. Additionally now the top section of the shifter arm they hold his come loose from the lower section because it's worn out it's interface. I'm hoping they can get back to me with some parts.

I have a K-tuned shifter on a 6 speed. I have had a few of the hex head screws come loose on the shifter body, which made the shifting terrible. A quick hit with the allen wrench returned things to normal. Check all of the hardware. Also, my 6-speed had a reverse lockout mechanism not supported by the K-tuned shifter. I built a separate lock out mechanism controlled from the cockpit. If you don't, it is almost impossible to find 5th gear coming out of fourth. Hope this helps.
