Hey Guys,
I was just getting ready for final install of my dash/cluster and decided I should tackle removing the ignition cylinder now instead of working around the dash. I drilled it out and removed it, however I was surprised that it wasn't hooked up to any wires. I have the Iwire harness with control panel that starts the car. Previously when go-karting the 818 I had the key in the cylinder to prevent the wheel from locking. With the ignition cylinder removed the steering wheel doesn't lock anymore (obviously) but now I'm second guessing if I need to keep the cylinder in the car tucked away at all.

Is there a security feature that would prevent the car from starting if the cylinder wasn't in the car via proximity sensor? If I'm using the Iwire harness and control panel to start the vehicle, do I need the ignition cylinder at all?

The steering lock is part of the ignition key cylinder. I would not remove it if it were me.

^Why? If I don't need/want the steering wheel to lock and start the car from the control panel, what does it get me?

IMO the ability for the steering wheel to lock is a theft deterrent. If you feel no need then leave it off.

Ok, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything else.

Like Wallace18 said, other than the lock (if you care) then you won't need it.
