I am looking for a good donor for a low price. Obviously cars that are damaged are at a huge discount so I have been searching through auction sites that sell totaled cars. I have found a couple great options, but then i got stuck. Coparts and IAAI both require you to have a dealers license in order to bid on cars. They mentioned having a dealer or someone registered bid on your behalf. Do any of you have experience with this or have any other recommendations?

Hi Nick
I have bought 3 cars from coparts. I have used "Cleveland Pick a Part" as my broker.
I don't remember the exact number, but you pay 10 to 15% premium for the brokerage service.
You give them a 400 deposit and they send you a logon name and password.
Then you can bid on cars up to $4000. (more with bigger deposit)
If you win then you send the rest of the money plus fees and tax. They send you a salvage title in your name and your state.
Then you have 5 business days to pick up the car or have it shipped.
There are a few other thing you need to do. But that is the idea.
Bob

There is a tread on here about coparts and other auctions

I had the same misgivings when purchasing my donor but ended up buying from Copart using Superior Motor Group as the broker. They and Copart both came through with exactly what they said they would promptly and were easy to deal with. If you are building an 818, the donor khartley has been discussing on this forum sounds like an excellent deal.

I bought off of IAAI through a broker. It was easy. Just look for a broker that has the right price and clear instructions on what to expect.

In many states you don't need a broker. I registered on Copart and bought mine from Michigan with no broker
