View Full Version : Parking Brake Failure

Hey guys, I need some help. The parking brake on my donor worked properly but now that it's in the 818, it won't actuate. The pads are within spec for thickness (though not by much), I adjusted the shoe clearance per the FSM and then the lever stroke, but when I pull on the handle it just clicks away with little resistance. This is even if I adjust the lever stroke all the way tight. I crawled underneath while my wife pulled and released the lever repeatedly and I could see the cables twitch with every pull. I'm sure it's a simple solution but I'm out of ideas. Did I maybe mount the lever too close to the firewall? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

You have the outer part of the cable clamped to the frame at the handle end right?

Maybe the place where you mounted the cables on the console is too close to the e-brake handle and there isn't enough adjustment range in the screw on the level. I would try unscrewing the lever adjustment screw as far as it can go and re-mounting the cable clamps further away from the lever. This will increase the pull distance on the cables.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I think it's the scenario STiPWRD described. I'm using Wayne's K-Tuned shifter so the center console was just put together the way I liked it.
I crawled back underneath the car and adjusted the shoe clearance until it was so tight it was dragging. Then I took it for a drive and it's loose enough that it's not smoking, but tight enough that it can stop the car from rolling on a slight incline when I pull the lever. It could not lock the tires up. So it seems that everything is hooked up correctly, I'm just out of adjustment range. Maybe I'll replace the shoes since they were getting thin and that'll give me the fraction of an inch I need.
