So I am going along just fine with my wire harness tonight (from an 06 WRX). I get to the transmission and realize my Legacy transmission doesn't have the bloody speed pickup gear!!! If I take apart my transmission to add it, that will be my third time breaking it apart. I took it apart once to install a used Cusco LSD that I bought. The second time was aggravating because the male stubs that came in the Cusco LSD happened to be the 02-03 variant that used an internal C clip to hold them in place rather than a nice rounded clip that you can just tug on them to pull out.

I have everything buttoned up in the rear end and really don't want to pull the tranny out and take it apart again. Has anyone else figured out a way to avoid this? I have found and read about VSSPro by DCCDPro.com, but reviews are less than ideal. Then I found that Mapdccd.com has come up with one recently that is more reliable as it uses two ABS sensor inputs. The problem I see is that I have the Racelogics traction control that also uses the ABS sensors. I will have two aftermarket systems utilizing the ABS signal and I will be keeping the stock ABS module for the brakes. Has anyone come across this dilemma?

BBJones,
I suspect that the ABS sensor can handle talking to 3 devices (TC, Speedo, ABS). My bigger worry is: Does your ECU expect to see the VSS signal?

I know that on my 04 FXT ECU with DBW, it was necessary that the VSS was there. I know that others are getting by without the VSS signal.
Bob

acronym guide
ABS = anti-lock brakes system
TC = Traction control
VSS = vehicle speed signal
FXT = forester XT
ECU = Engine control Unit
DWB = Drive by wire
LTD = Living the Dream

Thanks Bob. I actually have had some good discussions with Matt at MapDCCP motorsports. Sounds like their system will actually work great. I will just tie the VSS signal straight into the ECU connection of the transmission. Their system will work with my racelogics tc and still allow launch control with my Cobb accessory.

I have an 06 ECU, with legacy gt trans- NO VSS. It works fine without. I was told there might be an issue without running one, but no issue. GPS is my speedo.

I am going to give the MapDCCP.com VSS module a try. Any transmission I plan to put in there in the future would not have this speed sending gear and I would rather not deal with it. I will post writing diagrams for people when I get it.

I have the 06 ECU also, but I am running abs, tc, and stock gauge cluster. Fingers crossed... I will let you all know how all these systems work together.
