Hi guys,

My FFR shifter cable broke, and I'm using this as an opportunity to upgrade the shifter.

This is FFR shift cable on the shifter end, not the trans end.

Anyone have experience with either the K Tuned or the aluminum shifter from FFR's site? I'm not sure which to order. Any suggestions are welcome :)

Thanks
Frank

Get in touch with Wayne at VCP. FFR vendor. He will get you the good stuff. IMO.

Wayne's shifter. Ask for two of the longer shift cables from him. If you ever do a dry sump, you will need a longer cable to get some safe distance from the pump belt.

Thanks for the heads up, Chad. You guys like this shifter enough from a feel perspective, right? I'm torn between this and an MR2 shifter. I did NOT like tracking with the stock plastic one. Leaves a lot to be desired.

Dan (rm1sepex) has had both the FFR aluminum shifter and the MR2 setup.

Awesome. Thanks, Craig! I know I already started tapping into your thoughts on the matter haha.

You can have my stock un-used FFR cables if you want them.

It's perfect after getting the adjustment down. I used Rori's rear shift arm. I had issues when I first raced it, then adjusted it, and have not had any issues since. I have complete confidence when shifting into gears.

I believe you would be happy with VCP shifter or the MR2 shifter both have great feel. I went with the MR2 and using the MR2 mount 45035 45036 and modified the FFR linkage and cable mounts on the transmission.
I really like VCP shifter, it is a trick piece but the MR 2 route was a better fit for my budget. I am into my MR2 set-up $241.00, shifter, cables, rod ends and some hardware.

Any chance you could post links to where you got the cables and rod ends?

I got part number 100-04222-0082 (QTY 2) but you can customize to whatever length and rod ends you want.

We are trying the K-tuned RSX Race shifter. It's a very pretty unit, fully adjustable with stops as well, we will let you know how it works.

No info on FFRs aluminum shifter? FFR could have chosen any shifter to race with and they use the aluminum one with the forward routed cables...

I had the FFR aluminum one. I had to shim the fore/aft shaft to tighten it up. It was easy to shim and the sloppy feeling was almost gone. The ball type design is inherently tighter feeling. I sold it and went with the MR2 shifter for the better rearward cables. the looping, low quality cables make shifting sloppy. My MR2 and belcrank setup is almost as good as my 4 Miata shifters... I've actually got the trow to be less than a Miata, the feel isn't as good but that is a function of the transaxle (IMO)

I think just upgrading to Teleflex Extreme cables to remove the slop would go a long ways to improve the shifting even with the floppy plastic unit. I went through a bunch of iterations to get to my current setup.
