First off a big shout out and thanks to Hindsight for the expertise.

I pulled the transmission during the summer break so I can get the Quaife LSD installed with the help of Hindsight, as he has already done his and is an old pro.

Also got to check out the ACT flywheel and clutch, all is good there.

Got the tail off, and the tranny cracked open. Removed the ring gear from the old carrier, and upon closer inspection....

Needless to say it was good that I did this. From the heat mark it was only a matter of time before something let go.

Off to order a new ring and pinion.

BTW the LSD install is pretty simple otherwise. The challenge is when you have to replace the pinion, all the gears and such need to be swapped off the old one, and there are a bunch of more challenging settings that need to be made.

Glad I could help. Sorry we couldn't finish but it was a fun morning all the same. I'm looking forward to getting it all back together.

When you said got the tail off and tranny cracked, I thought the trans case cracked, then I realized you meant took the case apart. sorry about the gears but better to find it now.

There is actually a place in Alpharetta called All Pro Subie. I will most likely get them to do the pinion gears.

The replacement parts did ship yesterday, so I should get them early next week.

Just another reason why we should be adding trans coolers.

Good deal. I am open Saturday the 1st but I have to work Sunday from 6am to noon, then I have Race Committee duty at the lake, then back to work from 6pm to midnight...... Not looking forward to Sunday.

If that timing doesn't work, I'm pretty sure I'm open the following weekend both Sat + Sun.

Just another reason why we should be adding trans coolers. What would that look like? There is nothing to circulate the oil? I do wonder, but didn't have one on the Cobra T-5 tranny either.

You would have to get a pump, cooler, then a couple of AN fittings. I plan on doing mine at some point, god knows I have enough coolers lying around. I have one in my 911, and it saves the R&P. Went from 300+ temps in trans before cooler, now it mirrors the motor temp in my 911.

I just have not figured out the fitting yet on the WRX trans. I need to look at it, and come up with a solution. I have been too busy trying to fix other things on my money pit 818R.

If that timing doesn't work, I'm pretty sure I'm open the following weekend both Sat + Sun.No worries. Looks like the parts will show up today. I am busy this weekend and next, so I may take the whole mess to All Pro and let them do it in the interest of getting it done and back in.

Checking something hell I don't know what, but it was good after one adjustment.:o

Contact patch looked good, and was better confirmed once we split the case again to wash everything off and gasket the surfaces.

And back in and looks good! No runs, no drips. AutoX points event tomorrow so we will see how things work out, and hopefully more suspension tuning in the afternoon.

I huge thanks to Hindsight. He is infinitely more thorough than I, and it was like having a little Brother brother with a different set of skill and knowledge. No go get those brake lines done! :)

And a big thanks to long time friend Joe Camire. You are always there for us as a trusted advisor and solution to a challenge.

Finally got the 818R back on a track. Quaife LSD is a highly highly recommended improvement to the 818, especially if you are going to be adding HP. The rearend hooked up nicely in a straight ling as well as in turns. Now if I could learn to slow down on cold tires! I only got the first run because I forgot to delete all the old files from my Hero4. Thanks Hindsight and Cobra Whisperer Joe Camire for all the help!
