what is the torque for the nut on the 4WD to 2WD conversion? cant seem to find it. also the cover bolts torque to please.

I have not seen inside this transmission but how is the the shaft supported after the conversion is done and the center diff is removed?!? it seems like it floats there, there is no play but will it move around under load? I guess I am asking the guys with miles on there cars if they have any issues.

Cheers

In this picture the fifth gear is outside of the bearing, in the stock form the cantilevered fifth gear is not supported. The output shaft in stock form had the center differential it splined into and the diff has a large bearing supporting it.
I feel comfortable with the setup as the splined shaft engagement due to wear would not be a rigid support anyways and would rely on the big rear bearings to support the gears loading. Yes time will tell, but the best part is it is fifth gear. The time in fifth gear is usually in a cruise speed in a 818S not sure about the R. Nut item 35 is torqued to T2 88.5 ft-lbs
Cover bolts go by the thread pitch or 18.1ft-lbs.
These specs are from a 2005 5MT all wheel drive factory Subaru manual.

I have no miles on mine yet, but FFR wasn't the first to do the 2WD trans conversion. I'm no drivetrain expert, but I know these collars have been used to put EJ's in the back of sand rails and bugarus for quite a while without issue.

Any suggestions on how to support the transmission and lock the splines to torque the nut? I tried using some screwdrivers but that quickly bent the drivers. Tried using a punch and that broke the punch.

Stick an old clutch disk (that you don't need) on the input shaft. Thread some thick wire through it and then through a hole in the bell housing. Kind of like a ghetto flywheel lock basically. Should work.

When I did mine I am pretty sure I still had the whole front donor suspension connected... so I just stuck a big screwdriver into the brake rotor vents so it bound up against the caliper. That provided the lock while I applied the torque.

I did it with the motor/trans installed... in gear with wheels on the ground and tires chocked.
